1. Need Gifts?

I recently finished a preschool book fair, and I still
have a lot of great Usborne and Kane Miller books that
would make wonderful holiday, birthday, or teacher
gifts. You can look at what I readily have available
 by visiting my online storefront,
www.SFUsborneBooks.com, and clicking on "Wish Lists" in
the upper right hand corner of the home page. Under
"Find a Wish List", type in "Holiday Inventory". It
should give you a list of titles with the quantities
that I have on hand. (If you see pictures of the books
instead, there's a link right above the "sort by" pull
down bar on the right, which will then show it to you
as a "list")Do NOT "add to cart" or you'll end up
purchasing it through my warehouse in Oklahoma, and it
will NOT get here in time.If you buy 3 or more books,
and live in the city, I could possibly deliver the
books to you (depending on schedules). I live near
CPMC on California and Arguello. And, if you buy 4
books, I will give you the 5th one FREE (of equal or
lesser value).Shop early for the best selection. I
have other titles, which are out of print and no longer
available as well, so if you're looking for something,
and I don't have it listed, please email me directly,
Sharon at SFUsborneBooks.com.Thanks and Happy Holidays!

2. Speech delay question
--------------------------------------------------------
pccp22 - 12/19/2011 12:12 pm

My boys are 23 months, and not really talking much tho
they vocalize all the time and their "receptive"
language is very good (meaning they understand pretty
much everything). The pediatrician mentioned they are
"behind" and should be up to 50 or so words. Even with
stretching how one defines a word, we are coming up
with only 8 or so words. One of them approximates words
more than the other and seems to be on the right track,
tho the other seems shy of talking but has no problem
yelliing ba ba ba at the top of his lungs. He is whip
smart and understands complicated instructions but
doesn't seem to want to risk actually talking. They are
fraternal twins, and tho I have heard that identicals
can be delayed, I am not sure about fraternals. Any
feedback on speech development with your twins at this
 age?

My boy/girl twins are 3.5. Both were delayed in their
speech. They didunderstand everything but they simply
were not speaking the words, norattempting to. The boy
was more delayed than the girl.At 2.5 years, their
preschool teacher suggested that I place the boy
inspeech therapy because she felt that he was further
behind the girl and wasalso holding the girl back.
Although I had him tested and the testindicated that he
was delayed, I resisted in placing him in speech
therapywith the rationale that since he is a twin he is
most likely delayed and hewould catch up.However, when
he started preschool again this year, the teacher was
adamantthat he be placed in speech therapy. I also
began to notice that thedifference in my children's
speech and that of other children wassignificant when I
began to spend more time with other children in
theirage range.I finally placed him in speech therapy
and he is doing amazing. I now wishthat I would have
followed the teacher's instructions a year ago as
hisprogress is really incredible. My son's speech
therapist is Jennifer Lopez at Just Kids Learning
Center(415) 775-5511. I would contact her or another
speech therapist and askthem when they would suggest
either a screening or speech therapy. Therewere
multiple boys in our 2's preschool class who were in
speech therapylast year and it made a significant
difference. I had Jennifer do aninitial screening and
then he began speech therapy. She has done anexcellent
job and has also been very honest about how often he
needs tocome and the length of time etc..Hope that
 helps.SusanOn Mon, Dec 19, 2011 at 12:14 PM,
