I've travelled with Chicco Keyfit 30 car seats a couple
of times. Both times with bases, and the airline just
checks it (for free) with the base and car seat clicked
in, making one unit. But we have also put the car seats
into the car without bases a couple of times, and it
wasn't quite as easy as with the bases, but totally
doable, and not too complicated. If you don't mind the
extra weight and bulk to and from the airport, then I'd
say take them. If you rather travel lean, then leave
them at home, and you'll be fine. Also - I guess it
depends how much you'll be driving at your destination.
If there will be a lot of in and out of the car, then
it may be worth bringing the bases. You will be fine
 either way, though! Happy travels!

We recently took our Chico keyfit 30s on trip without
the bases and it worked fine. It secures with the
seatbelt. There are instructions in the booklet (it
might still be in the little compartment of your base.)
We checked one seat and took the other on the plane
because we had bought one extra seat. This was great as
our "mellower" twin was happy to sit in his seat for
most of the flight while we juggled the other one! Good
 luck!
