1. Any advice for starting preschool?
--------------------------------------------------------
ecannon - 8/21/2012 2:36 pm

Our 3.5 year old twins will be starting preschool in 2
weeks. It is a M-W-F morning program. I plan to take
them for the first week. After that, I will take them
on Mondays, and the nanny will take them on Wednesdays
and Fridays. We just started talking about "school", we
walked them to the school to check it out, and I have
described what a typical day will be like for them. I
realize this is a transition that may take a couple of
weeks, but thought I'd poll the group for any tips to
ease us through it (if possible). Thanks in advance
 -Betsy

Have they been to the school on an extended visit
(without you there) to meet their teacher and future
classmates? If not, maybe you can suggest it to the
Director. The other thing you should do, is to show
them, and make them go to the potty while you're there.
I found this out the hard way with my 3 year old
earlier this year. During his visit, they never used
the potty. So, when he started full days, MWF, and had
to go to the bathroom, he had performance anxiety. For
the first couple of weeks, he would try and hold it,
and ultimately lose it, or finally go but it was very
traumatic. Before you drop them off that day, go through
and practice what you will do, e.g. we'll go in, I will
quickly kiss you good-bye, and so and so will take you
to your classroom. I'm going to leave but I (or the
nanny) will pick you up later, after you've had fun
with your new friends. Then you must stick to that
routine, even if they cry. You must make your parting
quick and not prolong it, or it will be worse for them.
They usually stop crying, if they cry at all, right
after you're gone from sight :-)

One thing that really helped my boys was to do a couple
of playdates with classmates the first few weeks of
school. I reached out to some of the other moms I met
the first couple of days of school and made plans to
get together on the off days when they didn't have
school. It made it so much easier get them fired up
about who they would get to see at school. It's such a
sweet time! Be sure to take lots of photos.

5. Best way to wear twin infants?
--------------------------------------------------------
jeccat - 8/21/2012 10:26 am

Hi moms-- my in laws are about to fly back cross
country and I'm facing the rest of my four month
maternity leave alone. I am looking for a way to wear
both my 5-week-old twins out of the house, because
getting them in and out of their car seats and into the
double snap and go is a pain in the ass. I spent the
morning searching online and found a lot of
recommendations, but most of most of them seem to be
for older babies with better neck control. What did you
ladies do? Note: Unfortunately they both won't go into
the Moby; I tried twice this morning and got only
 screaming.

I was only able to get them into the Moby together
successfully ONCE - although I've heard it's worthwhile
to try again every few weeks., as things change
surprisingly quickly. My husband actually managed to do
2 overlapping carriers (when they were a bit older)--
one framed backpack style on back, and then a more
sack-like Bjorn or something in front. One thing that
worked for me was to wear one in a Baby Bjorn (or
similar but age-appropriate carrier), and then push the
other in a single stroller. I'd just be sure to rotate
so that each got equal time being worn. May not have
been optimal - but getting out was KEY, and a happier
mom makes for happier babies!!There are LOADS of used
single strollers out there for cheap, including the
snap'n'go style. Ours came in REALLY handy!Good luck
to you - i hope you find something that works soon!!

I never managed the wearing them both at once, but did
put one in a Moby while carrying the other one in my
arms on occasion. I also hated the carseat based
stroller, so ended up with a double side-by-side with
bassinets. I *love* it and it's much easier for me
than the carseats (which, incidentally, make my kids
spit up insane amounts). Good luck!

hi! ergo on back, with baby bjorn on front works.
ergo on back with ergo on front works. baby bjorn on
front with hip hammock on side works. i still wear
mine (13 months) together with ergo back and ergo
front, or wear one in ergo front and carry the other
with my left arm (stronger arm) on my left side. at
the age of your kiddos is tough though until their
necks are stronger... at your kids' age, i kept taking
turns wearing them in the baby bjorn with the other in
the swing. i only successfully wore them both in the
moby once and took a walk around the presidio. but,
man, when they woke up and wanted out...what a mess i
was in...the 'inside' one woke first and kicked the
'outside' one like crazy until i could get them both
out. anyhow, i bet some moms get the moby down pat.
however, i did not! :) all the best, jen

ps - as for getting out (realized i didn't address
that)...the carseats in the double snap 'n go does
work... i never tried natasha's idea of wearing one
with the other in a single stroller - that sounds
great!. a positive of the two carseats/snap 'n go is
that my girls have always taken great naps in the car
and in the stroller... ;) best, jen

Thanks so much to all of you! great suggestions and
resources. I have sent it to my friend, and hopefully
his family will listen. The physicians all agree that
she should have some type of rehabilitation, but the
father (husband) doesn't want to listen to anyone, and
the institution where she is at, doesn't want to do
more than the minimum. Very sad. I am hoping for the
 best.thanks

We are looking for coverage M-F during business hours
(we may do 10-6 because of the time difference). It
would be about 40 hours so a good gig for someone!

Hi Caroline,My 1.5 cents worth:1) how many days did it
take?about 3 nights2) should we ditch the swaddle and
paci at the same time?paci's never worked for us; but
blankies did, especially for one of ours3) should we
sleep train in separate rooms? and then reintroduce
them to same room once they are sleeping better?same
room for us -- they have each other and were going to
be in the same room eventually also, very good advice
we got was to not change anything else when trying to
sleep train -- e.g., feeding schedule, different rooms,
change of clothes, etc. 4) One twin sleeps for longer
already and doesn't wake up as often as the other twin,
should we sleep train them at separate times (in same
room, separate rooms?)same room, same time -- they can
be on the same general schedule but you may have one
who plays in her/his crib while the other sleeps --
this is what will probably happen and that is great5)
should we sleep train for naps at the same time?yes.
it's all about the skill anther posted noted -- knowing
that mommy/daddy is there for them, how to soothe
themselves to sleep, how to soothe themselves back to
sleep when they wake in the night or during a nap,
etc.OK. Again, that is just by 1.5 cents worth but I
hope it helps.Good luck. It will be well worth it

about this now. Now, to wait until all the house

I am SO SO SO SO sorry you are dealing with this. It is
so horrible. I had it the last three weeks or so. I
used Sarna and cortisone and Aveeno soap, and they just
provided temporary relief. I hope your topical cream
works. Mine was definitely gone within a week of
delivery, if not after just a few days (I don't really
remember it at all after having the babies, and it was
bad enough I feel like I would remember if it were
still there when I got home!). So hang in there!
