I am 18-weeks pregnant with twin boys. Both my husband
and myself are postdocs at UCSF. This period in the
academic life is considered post-PhD training to
justify paying us only $37k per year. We decided to
try to have one baby now since we are both in our early
30s and a second when one of us had a normal paying
job. We were shocked to find out we were having 2
babies. The most affordable childcare option we found
is getting an Au Pair, both nannies and daycare are out
of our price range. We are only allowed 6-8 weeks of
leave without a reduction in pay (which translates to
using all of our vacation and sick leave). I was
planning to take the first 6-8 weeks and my husband the
second 6 weeks to reach the 3-month mark when the Au
Pair can watch the babies alone. I am curious if
anyone had advise how to deal with returning to work
after only a 6-8 week leave.

Congrats on your babies! I believe you are actually
eligible for at least 12 weeks paid leave- 6 weeks of
paid disability through CA State (8 if you have a
c-section), and 6 weeks through PFL (aka "baby
bonding"). Your husband is also eligible for 6 weeks of
PFL. Neither pays 100% of what you were earning- it
works out to be around 55% of your gross pay, but it's
not taxed, so it's not insignificant. Here's a link to a
helpful brochure.

Hello everyone,My 5th grader needs to wear a white lab
coat for a science presentation. Does anyone have one
(perhaps from a Halloween costume or something?) that
would fit a 10-year-old that she can borrow? Please
reply to kelly94127 at yahoo.com.Thanks,Laura Kelly

Presented by Stephanie Forster, MFA, founder of Preggo
Pilates (www.preggopilates.com)A very healthy dinner
planned by Angie Needles of MamaKai.orgDo you have
abdominal muscle issues? Diastasis is a separation of
the abdominal muscles more common in moms who have had
multiples. The Tupler Technique is a series of
exercises designed to bring the abdominal muscles back
together. (Regular crunches can actually make diastatis
worse because they strain the muscles in a way that
causes them to separate more.) Come learn the correct
way to repair your tummy, help alleviate back pain, and
slim your waistline.
Stephanie is a Certified Pilates
Instructor & Director of Pre and Postnatal Education at
EHS Studios in San Francisco & qualified teacher of the
Tupler Technique.Event Details &

There is also urbansitter.com - that I've been using
and is great too!You have to sign in using your
facebook log-in -- but then you can see which of your
friends have used sitters or what sitters have sat for
other parents from SFPOM -- and it has an online
booking system so you can see who is avaialble and book
them!! Then they can either accept or decline the
booking - but so far the 2 sitters I have used from
urbansitter have been
great!!http://www.urbansitter.com/
