1. Annual raise for nanny

What is reasonable as an annual raise for a nanny? We
really like ours and would like to keep her, and she
has told us that her expectation is a $1 an hour raise
per year. (We pay her $20 an hour currently.) We were
somewhat surprised when she told us this because it
seems like she would price herself out of the market in
a few years if her pay continued to increase at this
rate (and I think I just had sticker shock because I'm
still not used to how expensive child care is in SF!),
but she's a great nanny so it does make sense to reward
her for it like with any other job. So I'd like to get
a sense of what other nanny employers have given for
 raises. Thanks!

That is a 5% raise (more if you pay her 1.5x for OT).
That seems fair-ish. Some of us work in companies
where the average annual raise is 2.5-3% but more, i.e.
5%+, for high performers or performers who are
underpaid vs others doing similar work.If she is great
 (ie a 4+ on a 5 point scale), 5% seems reasonable.
That said, I am assuming she is caring for 2 children
and not 1 and if it is only 1 child, I would say she is
 already on the high end.

Sorry, just noticed this is for twins. That seems
 reasonable!

Hello! My boys are 12 weeks today and I'd also be
interested in getting together with other Noe Valley
 moms. Sarah
