ktoc11 - 7/12/2012 10:07 pm

hi--I unexpectedly need a nanny asap to take care of my
4 year old son. He is between schools. Likely
timeframe is 6-8 weeks or so. Would love a college kid
home for the summer, nanny between gigs, etc.Looking
for someone full time for that time period, but also
open to 2 part-timers if the timing can work out. Please
contact me at ktoc at yahoo.com or 415-378-8442 if you
have any potential candidates. Thanks in advance,Kate
 O'Connor

2. nanny driving kids around?

Hi everyone, We are moving out from New York this
summer and are wondering how it works when you have
your nanny drive the kids to activities/school, since
we've never had to deal with that. Does she/he use
their own car? How do you deal with carseats -
multiple sets? Do you pay for gas/car
maintenance? Also, we are looking for a nanny to start
in August/September, so if you know of anyone good who
speaks Spanish and can drive, please do let us know!
Our boys are 2 and we'll be in the Castro/Noe
 area.Thanks,Rajni

New & expectant parents -- go to this one!! It
seriously saved us several middle-of-the-night trips to
the pharmacy, because ours kids always seem to prefer
coming down with stuff in the middle of the night. But
after I went to this session, I knew what I needed to
go out and purchase right away, so I'd have it all on
hand should it ever be needed (& some of it has
been.)Being a new parent is tough -- but this was SUCH
a helpful and reassuring session. And it's FREE!!
And Nurse Judy can answer all your questions - she's
 got loads of experience.

I agree fully with the above post. After the first
year, or year and a half, someone like the person you
found might be great. But, for the first year or two, I
would highly recommend making the investment and
finding someone with a lot of experience. Twin
experience isn't critical (some do share care with
same-aged kids) but experience with sleep training (if
you go that route), setting up and maintaining a
schedule, preparing solids when the time comes, etc.
will take a huge load off your plate.

Our nanny is younger than I originally envisioned (24),
but she had had experience caring for a family with
three children. At first I was worried about the lack
of twin experience but I thought the experience with
mupltiple ages was sufficient. And, she does an
amazing job. I think your decision should also depend
on how overwhelmed or not you're feeling about
everything. We were lucky in that we had relatively
easy babies it terms of eating, sleeping, temperament,
etc. Also we are rather organized and calm by nature
so we felt pretty good about stuff. Thus, I didn't
feel like I needed as much experience - was kind of
enjoying figuring it out! Good luck with your
 decision. I know it's a hard one!
