Have you lowered the mattress to its lowest position?
They have crib tents that other moms have talked about
on a few strings. They seem like a great
 alternative/option to contain your adventurous

Our 19 mo. old climbed out in the middle of the night
and fell on the floor. : ( We had no ideaWe let
the side down on his crib and switched to a thin futon
mattress on his brother's crib in order to buy us a
month or so. There are nice futon mattresses for cribs
in Berkeley at Matsu. I think they charged us $80 for a
 handmade futon.http://www.matsu-store.com/The thin
mattress helps reduce the reach to the top railing

We too had a climber. My husband was not too convinced
about crib tents but I managed to pick some up 2nd
hand. Honestly they were the best thing ever! My
husband quickly became a convert. If you ask him now he
tells everyone to buy them! They aren't the cheapest so
check classifieds in case someone is selling. We also
'sold it' to the kids by making it an adventure,
telling them it was their own private tent for camping
in doors. They do figure out eventually that they can
get out but by then hopefully transition to toddler
 beds is easier.Good luckTraceyGeorge
