Willie "Woo Woo" Wong Tennis Court Gets a Makeover

The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, Supervisor David Chiu, Harper
for Kids, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and Rec and Park tennis camp
kids gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 26 to celebrate the newly resurfaced
tennis court at Willie "Woo Woo" Wong Playground in Chinatown.

"This tennis court is one of the most beloved courts to the many tennis players
in this neighborhood," said Board of Supervisors President David Chiu. "We applaud
SF Rec and Park, Harper for Kids, and USTA for their efforts to improve the court
to better serve our Chinatown community."

The tennis court at the playground is the only public tennis court in Chinatown.
HFK and USTA donated more than $6,000 to resurface the aging and deteriorating
court in an effort to increase opportunities for children in the local community
to learn and play tennis as well as to develop important life skills. The donation
also helped resurface the adjacent volleyball court.

"SF Rec and Park is thrilled to offer new summer youth programming on the freshly
resurfaced courts at Willie "Woo Woo" Wong Playground," said Phil Ginsburg, SF Rec
and Park General Manager. "We look forward to an ongoing partnership with Harper
for Kids and the USTA that will help provide San Francisco children the opportunity
to learn the great sport of tennis and the lifelong lessons it teaches."

Willie "Woo Woo" Wong Playground has been identified as one of the City's playgrounds
in urgent need of renovation. Currently, it is on a list for capital improvement
under the 2012 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond, which is proposed to be
on the ballot this November. Click here [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001V_nRlVYg_r_upnlwKL4-rx5VKkCdj7oq0G6bYTWvyVvVQ5qhlg22mnPc1WHL4fbEesoDYLub-EJRVwualfcNTUMS0vTkbReUEKEhMwS0zVYABToqSTpYX-FHjyyXwe48iJ3FVmF3V_E=]
