So in the process of trying to research the first foods thing, I
discovered that there's a *huge* connection between vitamin D and
type 1 diabetes:
This study is supported by the observation in Finland where
children in the 1960’s routinely received 2,000 IU of vitamin D a
day during their first year of life. When these children were
followed for the next 31 years, it was observed that these
children had a reduced risk of developing type I diabetes by 78%.
I've not found the original study, but a *bunch* of people refer to
it so I'm pretty sure it's real. :)
Now, I found some 2000 IU drops that are very cheap.
However, the FDA[1] says 400 IU, no more.
Anybody mind if we say fuck the FDA and do the 2k IU instead?

[1]: The FDA is a bunch of wusses; as
http://lesswrong.com/lw/h2/blue_or_green_on_regulation/ says, the
primary motivation of an FDA approver is to never show up in a news
story about how people died. Saving lives is not nearly as strong a
motivation as not harming anyone ever.
