Save the Date: Scaregrove Halloween Event on October 27

Our annual Scaregrove event is coming up on Saturday, October 27, from 3 p.m. to
 9 p.m., featuring carnival rides, haunted houses, live entertainment, games and
 food for sale. Pre-sale tickets will be available on Mon 10/15.  Tickets can be
 purchased at McLaren Lodge Annex M-F from 9am to 5pm up until the October 26th.

Free Outdoor Mobile Rec Coming to Crocker Amazon This Saturday, October 13

The Department's Mobile Rec unit will be out at Crocker Amazon Playground this Saturday,
October 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering city youth free access to some amazing
recreation activities.  Funded by a grant from the Coca-Cola Foundation, our Mobile
Rec equipment travels from site to site each week, offering kids the chance to experience
non-traditional sports like rock climbing, skateboarding and BMX biking.  Come out
this Saturday to Crocker Amazon Playground (700 Moscow St. and Italy) and get out
and play. Also, look forward to our Mobile Rec team at a playground near you!

A Great Day for Tennis at Hamilton

Thanks to the United States Tennis Association (USTA)'s 10 and Under Tennis program
and our partners, the African American Art and Culture Complex and Mo' Magic, for
helping to co-host a special Tennis Play Day at Hamilton Recreation Center on October
6.  Dozens of kids from the Western Addition came out to play and learn tennis basics
from tennis coaches and professionals.

Rec & Park is proud to be an organizational partner of the 5th Annual NEN Awards,
to be held at City Hall the night of Wednesday, January 16th.  The Awards celebrate
the amazing work of community leaders and organizations in San Francisco's neighborhoods.

As is the tradition with the NEN Awards, the winners are nominated by the community.
 Of the many categories to choose from, we are especially eager to hear who you 
feel should receive the "Outstanding Park Volunteer Group" award.

Community Meetings: Information Walks at Mountain Lake Park, October 11 and 13

Join Presidio Trust staff for a walk and discussion about plans for the remediation
and enhancement of Mountain Lake. Enhancement of the area surrounding Mountain Lake
began in 2001 and is ongoing. In November 2012, the Presidio Trust will begin cleanup
of the lake by dredging contaminated sediment. Additional enhancement activities
 in and around the lake will follow. Learn about upcoming improvements to one of
 the few remaining natural lakes in San Francisco from project managers and staff.

ArtSpan Open Studios at the Sharon Art Studio this Weekend, October 13-14

The Sharon Art Studio in Golden Gate Park Invites You to its 2nd Annual ArtSpan 
Open Studios Saturday  and Sunday, October 13 & 14, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This 
free event  features works by 16 artists affiliated with the Sharon Art Studio. 
 Visitors will be able to speak directly to artists to learn more about  techniques
of wheel-thrown and hand-built pottery, glass fusing and  stained glass construction,
china painting, jewelry making, sculpture,  watercolor, drawing and more. Artwork

Get out your costume! October's event "Fancypants" focuses on costumes and art. 
Wear a costume and participate in numerous creative community art projects. In addition,
we'll have more of the features you loved last time.

Wear Your Costume: Bring your finest costume as a warm up for Halloween.

Penny Carnival with Rec & Park: Old fashioned fun - bring your small children to
 the Imagination Playground with bubbles, bean bag toss, basketball for tykes, parachute,
play dough and sand table, milk bottle toss, and silly hat table.

Puppet-making Station: Create a puppet and become a player in short community-run
puppet shows happening throughout the day.

Environmental Art Table: Make cool sculptures and art from bits and bobs found in
nature. And paint your own rock pet!

Costume-making Booth: Make your own mask, hat, or other costume element.

Make Your Own Flag: Make a flag to hang proudly along the street with the other 
flags. Community creativity unfolds!

Beautify a Bench and Tree Support: Whatever your ability, come paint a section of
a public bench or a tree support that lines the street.

Board games: Borrow a board game from the Information Booth.

Street games: Hula hoops, Foursquare, and more.
