1. Bad experience at Fattoush in Noe Valley
--------------------------------------------------------
nodelmonkey - 7/31/2013 11:16 pm

I have toddler twin girls (age 2) and was braving a
dinner out with them solo late last week but was
quickly deterred by our planned destination. We live
in Noe Valley and drove down to Church Street, found
amazing parking on the corner near Lovejoys Tearoom and
walked a mere two minutes to Fattoush. Too good to be
true indeed! It was 5:30 and there were no other
diners in the restaurant. I half-jokingly asked if
there was room for us. The owner (whom I have met many
times over the years but never with my kids in tow)
somewhat seriously said I think we can fit you in.
There was literally no one else in the restaurant. He
motioned us to a table at the back of the room, near
the toilet and kitchen. I ask if we might be able to
sit at the table near the front window because it
looked cozy and there may be some good and necessary
distractions outside for my girls so we can have a
peaceful meal and they will be deterred from moving
around. He replied, "No, this back table is our
'family table' and I'd like you to sit here." I then
became a bit frustrated by the whole interaction and
the more I thought of sitting at the back table when
there were many other options, I also considered not
only the annoyance to me but the danger of sitting with
hot food passing if my girls got out of their seats at
all. I asked once more if we could sit in the front
window seeing as how there were no other customers
there and was then told by the restaurant owner that I
had put him in a precarious situation as he likes to
keep that table clean and doesn't want children sitting
there. I finally decided we did not need to give him
our business so we left. I was a bit torn to leave as
we had been lucky to find parking so close, my
daughters had happily walked from the car without a
stroller, it was getting closer and closer to bedtime
and I didn't want to deal with loading and unloading
two children into car seats again by myself nor stray
too far from our neighborhood (generally you don't want
to push or mess with a happy kid, especially around
dinnertime). Lovejoys next door (a fine china tea
room) would have been happy to seat us (we frequent
there with our toddler daughters) but they were closing
at 6 p.m. and had stopped preparing food already. In
the end, we hopped back in the car, traveled just a few
blocks away to Papalote on 24th Street, were twice
lucky with the parking and had an amazing dining
experience - solo parent with twin toddlers and
absolutely no dramas or frustrations from my kids, the
waitstaff or fellow customers. In fact, many people
commented on how surprised they were that I had such
good, well-behaved two-year-old eaters (they sat in
their high chairs the entire time without complaining,
chowed on guacamole and tacos and drank full glasses of
water with no lids and no spills). Granted, this is
far from always the case but it made me very proud and
happy that I had moved on to a different restaurant for
dinner that evening, particularly one that welcomed my
 patronage, kids and all.

2. Kaiser Pediatrician Recommendations?
--------------------------------------------------------
MadellFamily - 7/31/2013 2:16 pm

Hi Parents! We just joined the group and are so excited
to be moving to San Francisco. Does anyone who is in
the Kaiser network have a recommendation for a good
pediatrician? We have twin girls - 9 months old. Would
prefer a female doctor. Thank you so much for any help
you can give!! (and looking forward to seeing some of
 you very soon :-)

When posting questions, searching for answers/info on a
topic, please be sure to also use the "Search" field in
the upper right of this "forums" screen. Lots of
topics come up on a regular basis, and the responses
are saved there - many are really universal, and not
time-sensitive. This is especially helpful if you need
answers urgently! Please post here if you have any
questions about this process, so that other users will
 benefit. Thanks!

Hi Erin-hope you are doing well! We just went through
this same thing with our boys & dropped a bottle this
week. I realized that they were drinking about 24 oz
over 4 bottles, but only about 4 oz during the 2nd &
3rd bottles b/c they weren't as hungry. So we cut it
down to 3 solid food feedings + 3 eight oz bottles per
day. The schedule is like this:8am- 8oz bottleAround
 9am- yogurt
I don't force it because my next step is to start
dropping bottles. I would love to have them off the
 bottle by the holidays :)

 Between 7-10 months I slowly migrated to 7am, 12noon,
4pm, 7pm meals. Each meal started off with a full
bottle. Usually around 6oz was consumed. Sometimes
more/less. Followed by exposure to foods. At some
point bottles were thrown to the floor at the lunch
meal, so just food for that one. Then naps mixed up
the 4pm/7pm meals, so just one meal there for a while.
Eventually bottles were thrown to the floor at
breakfast, so just food there. Now (at 24 months)
 we're on a 8am food only, 12noon food only, 4pm snack
(food only), and 6:30 bottle followed by food supper.
Bedtime is 8:15. Hope that helps. The kids were
pretty clear when they were ready to give up bottles!
:) Oh, and naps fell into place really well with that
schedule. 1st nap from 9-11 and 2nd nap from 1-3.
Worked great. Now, on just one nap from 2-4, the
 schedule still works well. HTH.

I've gone to Sophia Mirviss MD for years. She's down
to earth. I like her. If I need to be fit in same
day, her office/colleagues can almost always squeeze me
 in. HTH. She's on Shrader.

I take the girls to Golden Gate Pediatrics. They have
an office on California and in Mill Valley. Because we
live in the Presidio, I choose to go to the Mill Valley
office - parking is better. Anyhow, they're very good.
We see Eileen Aicardi. Love her.

Congratulations, expectant mama of twins! Super
exciting! The staff at the CPMC St. Luke's campus is
awesome with BF'ing and supporting new mamas.

my two favorite BF'ing books are:

Also, keep in mind that pumping 1oz is the equivalent
of BF'ing 4oz. Pumping is only 25% as effective. So
you don't get disheartened while pumping... :)

I've looked at the IKEA Kura bed.
 http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10123996/It
looks interesting. Haven't purchased it yet. Our
girls just turned two. One downside I read about is
that parents can't read in bed with the kids...they're
not sturdy enough to hold adult weight. Wonder what
others have to say... And, I'll be curious to hear
what you end up getting. Best, Jen

I was able to buy one Walker Edison loft frame from
Craigslist. I liked the height because it is about a
foot shorter than the Ikea one. I was worried about
head room at the ceiling. I know the loft beds are
meant for up to 255 lbs. another concern is how to
change the sheets! But I think the one we got will
work. Just need to find a matching one now. Still
 searching.....On Jul 31, 2013, at 4:14 PM, Jennifer
