Teens, Looking for an After School Job?

Workreation is a youth employment and training program that is an integral part 
of the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department's mentorship program. This year
marks the 55th year of the program. All youth, ages 14-17, who either attend school
or live in San Francisco are eligible (18 as long as they are still in high school).

Participants work for minimum wage ($10.55/hour) in a variety of recreational, aquatic,
administrative, sports, and after-school positions throughout the Recreation and
 Park Department, that provide opportunities to develop leadership and problem-solving
skills, teamwork and community awareness. Youth work up to 10 hours per week during
school year programming.

Applications will be accepted Wednesday, December 18 through Friday, January 17.

Mobile Rec at Kelloch-Velasco Playground on December 21

Come out and play on the Recreation and Parks Department's Mobile Rec gear! No need
to travel far, all through the school year the equipment rotate through parks or
 recreation centers all over San Francisco on Saturdays from 11am to 2pm. You will
be able to learn techniques and test your skills on the Department's 30-foot rock
climbing wall or get skateboarding and biking tips and learn tricks from RecPark
 Staff! Get ready to ride the ramps, rails and manual pads on our BMX bikes and 
skateboards. RPD staff will be on hand to teach beginner's the basics of kick-turns,
fakies, and dropping in.

This Saturday, December 21 Mobile Rec will be at Kelloch-Velasco Playground (located
at Schwerin and Velasco Streets), 11am-2pm.

Healthy Parks, Healthy People Trail Walk at McLaren Park on December 21

Join us for a walk through McLaren Park, San Francisco's second largest park. The
walk starts with light stretching, followed by a guided walk through groves of redwoods
and cypress trees.

This activity requires no registration and is free for all. Join us at University
& Mansell, next to the sign (Third Saturday of Month) at 10:00 am. Let's Get Out
 and Play!

Our professional RPD Guides will provide a short interpretive program designed specifically
for each location. The staff will have first aid equipment and are certified in 
CPR.  Please bring your own water.  Sunscreen and snacks are always encouraged.

Please check local weather forecasts - Trail Walks will be canceled due to rain 
or unsafe conditions.

Registration for Camp Mather Lottery Begins on January 6

Campers, registration for the 2014 Camp Mather lottery begins January 6!  Thanks
 to the efforts of the SF Fire Department, the SF Public Utilities Commission, local
and state agencies, and our own camp staff, Camp Mather in the High Sierras largely
survived the Rim Fire that devastated the Yosemite and Stanislaus National Forest
area earlier this year.  Although impact from the fire no doubt remains, we are 
actively planning for the 2014 camp season and Mather's 90th Anniversary celebration.
