The Year of the Snake: 2013

The SF Zoo Celebrates Chinese New Year

Sunday, February 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

To  commemorate the Year of the Snake, the San Francisco Zoo is thrilled to  host
Lunar New Year entertainment for children of all ages. Come marvel  at Chinese acrobatic
performances, traditional Chinese lion and folk  dancing, Chinese yo-yo tricks and
much more. Make a take-home snake  craft near the entertainment stage. Go on a Zodiac
Scavenger Hunt  through the Zoo to learn fun facts about the animals found on the
 Chinese calendar; complete the Zodiac Scavenger Hunt and receive a lucky  red envelope
with a special surprise inside.

The  Zoo's Chinese New Year festivities will be held at the Event Tent near  the
 entrance to the Children's Zoo. Access to the celebration is free  with paid admission
to the Zoo. However, guests born in the Year of the  Snake (1929, 1941, 1953, 1965,
1977, 1989, 2001 and 2013) will receive  free Zoo admission on that day.

Survey: Mansell St. Project in McLaren Park

Mansell Street in McLaren Park is a main corridor running through the  park that
 is well used by cars, MUNI, bikes and pedestrians. Proposed improvement designs
 will provide better and safer access for all users of  the road. Some enhancements
to the road may include new sidewalks,  better crosswalk designations, bulb outs,
sharrows, transit stops, and  new paving.

We want to know what your think.  We're requesting your feedback on this project

Youth Stewardship Program Teaches Students the Wonders of their City Parks

To all youth educators: Rec and Park's Youth Stewardship Program (YSP), is a free
environmental service learning program for city youth. If you'd like to find out
 how you can complement your indoor classroom with an outdoor classroom service 
learning field trip that incorporates service learning and restoration curriculum,

 200, for more information. Applications for Winter/Spring 2013 are still being 
accepted. We accept applications from formal educators, non-formal educators and
 independent youth program leaders for SFUSD schools, grades 2 through 12.

and education activities at Heron's Head Park in India Basin Shoreline/Bayview neighborhood,

Free Mobile Recreation Coming to Garfield Park This Saturday, February 16

Mobile Rec is coming to a park near you!  FREE rock climbing, BMX  Biking and Skateboarding
for youth, every Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. to 2  p.m.  This Saturday, February 16,
join us at Garfield Park (26th and Harrison  Streets).  Equipment provided by Rec
and Park, but participants may  bring their own.  Subject to cancellation due to

Tenderloin Children's Playground Artists Featured at King's Gallery

Come to the King's Gallery now through March 7 to view an exhibit by the Art Studio
at Tenderloin Children's Playground.  This exhibit showcases recent work from the
Tuesday and Saturday afternoon Art Studio taught by Andrei Glase, of the Children's
Multicultural Museum.  A special reception on February 24 from noon to 2 p.m. will
be hosted in the Gallery and features art activities for children.  Don't miss the
fun!
Kings Gallery is located at 1187 Franklin St, San Francisco, in the Unitarian Universalist
