We just got twin beds for our girls and so I have 2
 Ikea Kritter
 (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S59851606/)
toddler beds in white with mattresses that I'm willing
to give away. These are both in good condition, but
they do have some (girly) stickers on them, which I
think these could probably be pretty easily removed.
They are already disassembled, but go back together
pretty easily. I'm also going to post on Craigslist
(free), but I wanted to send out here first. Let me
 know if you're interested.Dale

3. Warming Twins Bottles ?
--------------------------------------------------------
ZuzuSF - 1/5/2013 11:52 am

Hello, First day home with my twin girls and we are
having a tough time with the bottle warming in time for
the hungry girls. We dont have a microwave and would
rather not get one so I thought just warm water in a
tub and submerging would be good. Its taking a bit
long and kind of hard with the bottles floating away.
Any tips on good methods or plugin warmers anyone likes
 for 2 bottles ? Thank you , Z

We had a couple of bottle warmers, and this was
 definitely the better one:

 http://www.amazon.com/The-First-Years-Bottle-Warmer/dp/B000056HMB/ref=sr_1_6?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1357418625&sr=1-6&keywords=bottle+warmer.
The cold container in the back is supposed to work to
keep a couple of bottles cold overnight, so you could
put the whole thing in the nursery, but since we got
ours hand me down, that didn't part didn't work for us.
But it heats up bottles fairly quickly, and since you
use a pre-measured amount of water, it shuts itself off
when the bottle is done - so if you can't get to it
immediately, it won't overheat. (Unlike bottles sitting
in hot water - either a pot on your counter, or a
warmer that uses a hot water bath.) The instructions
say to wait a couple of minutes before using it again,
but we never found that to be a problem. Once the first
bottle is warm, pour the water for the second bottle
into the warmer, wait until it stops hissing (like, 10
seconds) and then start the second one.I haven't seen a
warmer that will warm two bottles at a time. Sounds
like an opportunity for an entrepreneur out there?!Good
 luck!

Congrats!! We kept hot water ready to go in a stainless
steel thermos. We'd make formula with that water in
the bottles- it was especially helpful with a 2 story
house and hungry twins!! best wishes!

i swear by anti-colic
bottles...)i also like the thermos idea. i never tried
that; didn't think of it. ...for months at the start
we'd make up nighttime bottles in advance; put them in
the small fridge we bought for our bedroom upstairs,
had two warmers on the dresser, and we'd stand there
with crying babies warming bottles. hope you find a
better solution! :)hope this helps. best, jen

another little trick i found with the room temp water
is to put a bit of water is the bottom of the bottle,
then the formula, then top off with water. this way
the formula doesn't stick to the bottle and requires
less shaking to mix, and therefore creates fewer air
bubbles. i don't shake much at all, just kind of roll
the bottle back and forth. hth.

The water from our faucets can get pretty hot. I heat
them in small Tupperware containers. Started with some
of the free plastic bowls we brought home from the
hospital. They heat up in about 5 minutes. If the were
super hungry and crying, they would drink the milk at
 whatever temp in was.

My boys still won't drink room temperature, but that
definitely sounds like the best solution if you can
make it work for them. We use the Dr. Brown's warmer
and have liked it. We also use the warm water in a
thermos technique when traveling - though it's nice to
pre-make the bottles once/day and refrigerate them (I
also recommend the Dr. Brown's formula mixing pitcher
for that endeavor). Have tried a crockpot at relatives'
houses a few times and found it too slow once the
bottles got to be larger (when they were only a few
ounces at a time it was no problem). Congratulations
 and good luck!

Ask about their hospital housing options, and be clear
that you are feeling post partum depression and a very
strong need to be with them. Often times, if the
hospital has an open bed, they will let you sleep in it
so that you can maximize your time with the babies or
they have nearby housing for very cheap. We were at
CPMC and rented a hospital housing apartment across the
street from the NICU for 8 full weeks - my recollection
was that it was around $45/night for the 2-bedroom
apartment. Wishing you and your babies all the very
 best.

Congratulations on your new year's gift! I, too, gave
birth to my boys at 31 5/7 weeks...12 years ago! One
of the boys was in the NICU for 3 weeks, gaining weight
and getting stronger. The other was in for 7 weeks.
The first few days felt odd, to be coming and going
from the hospital without any babies. Here's the
positive...during that time, my body was able to heal
faster because I didn't have to bend over and pick up
babies to change and feed several times a day. Daily
time in the hospital gave me a chance to ask the nurses
and doctors the "silly, first time" parent questions
(like how to keep them on a schedule) without
hesitation. My husband and I also became quite good at
changing diapers under the supervision of "experts".
When we left in the evening, we left knowing that our
babies had the best "babysitters" and would take care
of them until our return. We were only a phone call
away...and we could call the NICU anytime, even in the
middle of the night, to check on our boys.By the time
they both left the hospital, we didn't have any first
time parenting nervousness and could enjoy our babies
:-)Hang in there...allow your body to heal...it won't
be long before these first few weeks will be a distant
memory and sleep deprivation will be your new concern!

I'm so sorry you're going through this hard time. My
kids were in the NICU for about three weeks, and I
"commuted" to the hospital every morning to be with
them, and went home at night. It was always hard going
home - even though they were getting the best care at
the hospital and I had total faith in the doctors and
nurses, and even though I know the kids would be mostly
sleeping, and probably wouldn't be aware of my absence,
it felt like I was treating them as a job, leaving at
the end of the day to put my feet up at home. It's good
for you to go home - as the previous poster said,
you'll be able to heal, you'll be able to rest (in a
way you won't be able to rest for months after this),
and you can come and go from the hospital anytime you
need to.But it will be hard - the babies seem fragile
and so small, and it feels like this is when they need
you most. Try to listen to your logic, when you can -
they are doing FINE, and you are being the best mom and
support you can be, and you'll be home with them before
you know it.And the rest of the time, accept that it's
hard, this isn't ideal, and let yourself cry if you
need to. Every day will get a little better, will feel
a little more normal, and soon you'll have two newborns
at home who will need you at what feels like every
minute, and you will be right there with them all the
 time.

exciting! we did this last week with our 17 month
olds. -we bought three seats, to have a middle seat
for them to romp in between us. -we both wore ergos,
they took naps on us in them-we brought tons of
snacks-if the kids are still using bottles, try to time
their feeds at take-off and landing for their
ears/swallowing-i like direct flights; we've flown
across country with them several times; i like getting
it over with-we brought an ipad, two iphones, and and
two ipods all loaded with sesame street episodes.
sometimes we put the ipad in the pouch of the middle
seat for both girls to watch, other times we let each
girl hold an ipod. the iphones were for us to listen
to music/etc (and to have as backups, just in case one
of the other devices failed). -we gate checked the car
seats and the stroller (using the childress bags off
amazon - not necessary but nice to protect the gear a
bit); definitely recommend gate checking the car seats,
they get bounced around much less in gate check than in
baggage check (recently read a piece that suggested
that baggage check is rough enough on carseats to have
similar impact as a car accident/damage them; didn't
follow up and research the article, and thus don't know
if that is true, but it was worrisome nonetheless)-we
baggage checked the two pack 'n plays for portable
cribs on arrival (i bought fitted sheets for them
before our trip to bring)-we had our parents buy
fisher-price space saver high chairs prior to our
arrival; the ones that strap to dining room chairs.
-you can use the carseats in the taxihope this all
helps. the middle seat for romping was critical, in my
opinion.also, some parents of multiples buy a bag of
ear-plugs to hand out to nearby folks on the plane,
just in case! :)and definitely pack an extra set of
clothes for each of you in case of a mess. in addition
to an extra set of everything for the girls, i threw in
t-shirts and shorts (to take up less space) for both my
husband and i (just in case...)if you have other
questions, i'm happy to answer.have fun! and remember
that even if the kids scream the entire flight, you'll
never see any of those folks on the plane again in your
 life! :)best, jen

i understand the trapped feeling very well. have been
there! what's your meal schedule like? we eat
breakfast between 7-8, lunch at noon and dinner at 5pm.
if the girls are playing and engaged in the morning,
they usually don't want a morning snack which gives us
a huge chunk of time to be out and about. i also
change them into daytime clothes right when they wake
up..fresh diapers and out of pjs/into play clothes
before breakfast...that way they're ready to head out
for an outing by 8:30 am. that gives us time to drive
somewhere by 9am and play until 10:30 or 11 and then
get back home by 12 noon. they eat a great lunch,
followed by nap, sippy cups of water after nap, maybe a
small snack, then dinner at 5pm. bed by 6:45. rinse,
repeat! hope that helps? have you been to the holly
park playground? or the presidio heights playground?
both are great! best in town for twins that I know
 of.best, jen

Yes, yes, yes! My twins are eight months old, and I
went back to work four months ago. My commute is long
and painful (esp at night as I just want to be home
with them at the end of the day) but otherwise I am so
thankful to be both a mom and a full-time employee of a
company other than our household. We could not do it
without our wonderful nanny, and I have yet to make it
to a single playgroup type activity or moms event, but
those sacrifices are well worth it to me (at least for
 now).
