1. What is your feeding schedule for 6 month old twins?
Solids/milk
--------------------------------------------------------
eeewww - 1/14/2013 12:13 pm
My twins are 6 months old. One has been a bad formula
drinker and the other a great formula drinker. We
started the bad drinker on rice cereal at 5.5 months
and she seems to like eating solids. We started the
other one at 6 months. We have introduced sweet potatoes
and carrots so far. The bad bottle drinker loves
everything and eats a lot of solids for her little
body, and still seems to drink about the same amount of
formula in her bottle as before, or just about. The
other one doesn't seem to like the solids much, but
will eat a bit. But even if she doesn't eat too much of
her solid meal, she doesn't drink much of her bottle
after. Then she is starving for her next meal 4 hours
later. And she has been waking up at night crying. This
morning she woke up at about 4 am. She has been weaned
off that feeding for a while. But she woke up. I held
her and calmed her (we are CIO people but this was
unusual). But she didn't fall back asleep and she was
still crying at 6 so I fed her even though she usually
eats at 7 am. I have tried giving her her bottle first
but then she really doesn't eat the solids. Plus, the
logistics of feeding one baby solids first and then
bottle and the other baby bottle first and then solids
when you are alone and feeding them is kind of a
nightmare. So, I'm just curious what your schedule is?
When do you feed the solids and bottles? Our pre-solids
schedule was:7 am wake up7:15 bottle9:15-11 nap11:15
bottle1:15-3 nap3:15 bottle5-5:30 nap6:45 bottle7 pm
bed11 pm dream feedWe have been following this same
schedule but just doing some solids before the 11:15
and 3:15 bottle. Should I be doing something
different? Also I think one baby is ready to shift to 2
naps a day and the other is not, so we have to stick
with the three naps for now.

I started solids at 6 months, and our pre-solids
schedule was almost identical to yours (the last nap
was about 4:30-5, and we quit the dream feed at 5
month, but otherwise the same). For the first few
weeks, we just did solids once a day at about 8:30 am.
By 7 months or a bit earlier, we added another one
around 4. Shortly after that they dropped the third
nap. At 8ish months we added a third meal, right around
noon. I always gave food after milk. My understanding
is that most of the nutrition comes from milk at this
age still, and the food is all about learning how to
eat, and new flavors and textures, and just a little
bit of nutrition. (Also, I was breastfeeding and I
didn't want even one-quarter ounce of pumped milk to go
to waste while I was at work.) So I always gave solids
a little bit after milk, to ensure they'd drink all the
milk they should be getting, and then after waiting
just a while, they were hungry enough to eat a little
bit of solids. If you do solids just a little while
after bottles, it seems like your babies will drink
their usual amount. Maybe one will eat more than the
other for now (probably just differing interests), but
with more practice she'll get there. Then you can keep
them on the same schedule, too, which as we all know is
key with twins!ErinBrett and Maggie9/28/09

between 6-9 months i slowly migrated to meals at 7-8am,
12noon, 4pm and 7-8 pm. with morning naps between
9-11, afternoon naps between 1-3, and sleeping through
the night. (i stopped dream feeds around 7 months). i
took this from the 'french national meal plan' from the
book 'bringing up bebe'. worked great. i migrated
slowly to stretch out the meal until i reached 4 hour
intervals, by distracting the kids for an extra five
minutes every day or two, until i finally had stretch
out the intervals... i loved this schedule. was
effortless once established...fit so nicely with
naps...everything fell into place...the catch: once we
went to one nap, it took me a while to realize that
dinner had to be moved up to 5pm...and bedtime around
6:30... 4pm snack/meal kind of got phased out. like
erin, i always fed milk (formula in my case) first at
every meal by bottle, followed by exposure to solids.
my goal was nutrition by milk and exposure/education to
solids only - no emphasis on nutrition with solids for
many months...now, at 17 months, i still give formula
for nutrition first at breakfast and dinner, though
lunch is completely solids now. breakfast and dinner
are followed up by solids. i anticipate that we'll
migrate from formula+solids to entirely
solids+multi-vitamin by 24 months...hope this helps!
best, jen

My pre-solids schedule was nearly identical to yours.
We are now feeding solids 4x/day due to demand (my kids
*love* solids!) and they are still drinking 30-40oz of
formula a day. We do:7 -8am: wake up, bottle followed
by oatmeal w/ fruit9am - 10am: nap11am - 12pm: bottle
followed by "lunch" of finger foods (at 9 months, they
are way over me feeding them solids and prefer to feed
themselves - which means less actual consumption of
food and more food for the dog...)1-2 or 3pm: nap3-4pm:
snack followed by bottle (this is my attempt to merge
the two solid rounds into one lunch :) )5-6pm:
sometimes there's a 20min nap in here still, but they
are dropping it6 or 6:30pm: dinner of solids, then
bottle. Bed by 7:30.

5. how to stop using pull-ups at nighttime
--------------------------------------------------------
seabringwatts - 1/14/2013 10:57 am
I have 4-year-old, almost 5-year-old twins, who have
been potty trained for a long time but they are still
wearing pull-ups to bed at night. I'm looking for some
guidance on how to get my twins out of them and able to
be fully potty trained even when they are asleep at
night. We always have them go to the potty right before
bed. We have tried having them sleep at night without
pull-ups, and waking them up before my husband and I go
to bed to have them use the potty. Sometimes they will
pee and then sleep through the night without an issue.
Sometimes they will not need to pee and then will wet
their bed in the middle of the night. There have been
times where they have slept through the night without
wetting the bed but it is erratic.I want to encourage
them to sleep without pull-ups especially when they
want to try it (which sometimes they do), but I am also
tired of waking up in the middle of the night to change
a wet bed.Any advice?

Sounds like you are on the right track. I also carried
our 2 to the bathroom each night around midnight and
they went every time (did this for about 4-6 months I
think). They never once woke up, but it was an
essential part of their training as they still couldn't
hold it all night without the help. Once the pullups
were done, they were done, they never went back to
them. One thing that really helped is to limit a lot
of evening drinking while training. Also, we bought
these absorbant pads (you can get them now either
disposable or the cloth type that we had that you can
rewash.) Layer their beds with pad, sheet, pad, sheet
etc. with several for each bed if you can. That way if
they wet the bed (usually their top sheets and covers
were not wet), you just come in, strip off the top
sheet and pad and it's back to bed for all. Good luck,
I'm sure it will end soon! Some kids take longer than
others!

7. need helper/nanny mid day

melissa_farris - 1/14/2013 9:30 am
I'm looking for a mothers helper/nanny that can come
from about 3-6pm M-F. If any of you only use your
nannies in the morning and think they might be
interested in more hours, please let me know. My times
and days can be flexible but I need help around that
time of day! Let me know if you have any leads. Thank
you very much!
