Hi Jennifer: I'm a mother of Twins that were born in
April. We had amazingDoula/Newborn specialist. Our
twins are 2 1/2 months old. We hire Cindy for the
duration of two months, and kept her for a total of
three months. She will finish with us in mid July.
However, I honestly think eight to ten weeks would be
sufficient. My husband and I are very grateful that we
had Cindy as our doula. Cindy combines enormous wisdom,
experience, professionalism and a great deal of human
kindness in her work and was a joy to have with us. In
addition to her extraordinary skills as a doula she is
a also quite skilledin taking care of recuperating
mothers and was very helpful to me.I have been
incredibly fortunate to have Cindy with me to guide me
through all of the practical skills, and most
importantly to give me time to heal and to encourage me
every step of the way.She is incredible.... more
specifically, she is gifted with the ability to take
care of our (preemie) twins, and teach parents the
essentials skills they need to be competent parents. In
addition, Cindy is such a pleasure to be with--- always
has a fantastic attitude and completely focused on what
is best for the babies. I was amazed at her composure
and professionalism at all times. We will be forever
grateful for having Cindy in our lives. She is
absolutely phenomenal!Our experience with having 3 1/2
year old stepson at home with us with the twins was
unbearable at times. You are going to need nights. We
started with days, and discovered the nights were more
helpful, and less stressful--- having the support, and
rest which was so desperately needed. Needless to say,
we were so sleep deprived. However, Cindy works
days/nights to accommodate a family schedule and very
affordable. Please feel free to contact me. If you have
any questions or concerns. Thanks,Carrie Galves

I have 2 1/2 month old twins also and we have had our
night doula from night one until now and I am planning
on keeping her for another month. I honestly don't
think I would have been able to function without her! I
would say you can start with a month and see how you
feel from there. I moved out of the area so
unfortunately our nurse isn't in the bay area. I would
look under night doula as well as night nurse... I
wasn't finding much under night nurse when I was
looking for my night nurse. Good luck!

I'll second getting 3 coach seats. The first class
folks WILL lazer you, as many are taking the night
flight to get to a meeting in the morning. We are flying
soon with our 20 month old twins; we got three coach
seats and one twin will be a lap baby. We did the same
when we flew last summer, and that third seat with
carseat was sure handy! Unfortunately, we have daytime
flights and I expect we will spend most of the flights
walking the girls when they aren't napping.

Thanks everyone for your input! They're not walking yet
but it could be a different story when we are planned
to fly because they're currently standing on their own.
I'm leaning toward 3 to 4 coach tickets. I'm realizing
we will have more stuff than before flying with the
twins and those extra baggage allowances will probably
be helpful. I'm going to get the lightweight car seats
suggested. Does anyone know if there are travel carts
to borrow from sfpom?

I have two cheap travel carseats that another twin mom
assured me would fit down the airplane aisles attached
to my rolling bags (here's hoping). If they work, you
are welcome to borrow them - we need them next week and
then again in August, but otherwise you could easily
borrow them for a week or two.

You can tandem feed them at this age. Once I got back
to only breastfeeding, I generally tandem fed. It made
things so much easier and faster to tandem feed. Make
sure that you have good support (breastfeeding pillow,
other pillows for them and for you). I took over our
largest couch for tandem feeding; some women with twins
find that the floor works better (lie the babies on the
floor, sit down and get everything adjusted; lift
babies up for feeding)At this stage, I wouldn't plan to
do anything other than feed and change the babies
during the day, at least until you find the best way to
do that on your own. Put dinner in the slow cooker in
the morning before your husband leaves (or have him do
it!), or have your visitors bring you dinner that you
can microwave later. Make up the whole day's
supplement for the twins in the morning and put it in
the refrigerator. You can refrigerate your pump parts,
too, and only wash them once or twice a day instead of
every pumping. (I wish I had known the latter even for
the short time that I pumped!)
