Hi Eugene :)I have a feeling I know how you feel. When
I had only my daughter I didn't know how I would carve
out time for therapy. In the end, you just do it
(split the time between you and your partner although
the reality is that I was at most of them). It helped
the greatest to be able to have a therapist come to
your home. We did, for a short time, go to a therapist
in Noe Valley. Once my daughter went into preschool
(age 3-5) at Sheridan she had a therapist go to her
preschool to do therapy there. Right now one of my
twins gets speech therapy at home (he just turned 2
 years old). So . . . to answer your questions . . . 1)
Is it worth it: Yes (for multiple reasons). The main
reason: KIDS ARE MEAN. Doesn't matter if you are in
an affluent area or urban. I found that most kids are
very sweet until age 5 and if they have a good teacher
that is supportive and is very in tune to what is going
on with the students then he/she can intervene. If
their parents teach them about diversity and how each
child is different then that will help them through as
they get older. But 6 year olds can be very sassy
(which I was warned about and saw for myself) and tend
to say sassy things they have heard their parents or
other adults say. I did not want to put my kids
through that. The second reason (similar to the first)
is that I didn't want my kids to feel bad about
themselves. Even at 18 months, I could tell one of my
boys could tell he couldn't do certain things like his
brother and showed signs that he felt bad. No one else
could tell but us and the therapists. We have always
provided a positive environment and taught very early
about diversity since their sister was very different
from them. Once we started early intervention and
therapy, he changed dramatically over the past 8
months. He will most likely not need speech therapy by
the time he turns 3. My other son actually wishes he
was in therapy (I need to keep him out) because all
they do is play all the time and each therapist has a
"cool bag of toys".2) SF Hearing and Speech Center - I
don't have any experience with them so I can't help
there. I do know a few speech therapists and can
recommend someone if you would like to use them. Just
private message me for referral or if you have any
questions or need to talk.Good luck and I hope this was
 helpful :) Juliet

We used this center: http://www.spencerkong.com/ when
our son was 2, he was frustrated because he could not
communicate well, and so were we. We are very happy
with results :-) We has sessions for about half a year
 - once a week. Good luck!
