Lafayette Park Reopens on June 8

Join Senator Mark Leno, Assemblymember Phil Ting, District 2 Supervisor Mark Farrell,
Friends of Lafayette Park, the Department of Public Works and the San Francisco 
Recreation and Park Department for the grand reopening of Lafayette Park, which 
has recently undergone a $10 million renovation under the 2008 Clean and Safe Neighborhood
Parks Bond.

Great Sweep Poster Contest Winners Announced

The first annual Giant Sweep poster contest has been a resounding success, with 
300 posters submitted by 22 schools all across San Francisco. The winning artists
each will receive $500, as will their sponsoring teachers and their schools.

You will see the winning posters, and other entries, displayed around San Francisco
in the coming months to promote the citywide Giant Sweep goal of keeping San Francisco
clean and beautiful.

The winning poster for the K-5 grade category is:

Abigail Cheng's entry "Celebrate an SF Giant Sweep - Let's Keep Our Streets Clean!"
 Abigail's teacher is Ms. Meagan Andrews at the Hamlin School.

The winning poster (above) for the 6-8 grade category is:

Angela Aragon's entry "Giant Sweep!"  Angela's teacher is Ms. Ruth Cardillo at the
San Francisco School.

The winning poster for the 9-12 grade category is:

Sophie Schneider's entry "Recycled Sweep"  Sophie's teacher is Ms. Giselle Chow 
at Lick-Wilmerding High School.

Meeting Location: Greenwich, between Jones & Leavenworth

Join the Friends of Joe Dimaggio Playground for a volunteer workday at Michelangelo
Playground in historic North Beach. The Friends of Joe DiMaggio Playground is a 
community-based group of North Beach residents who use and care about neighborhood
playgrounds. The Friends assist in maintaining and growing public playgrounds through
active participation in special events. Lend a hand in cleaning up the Michelangelo
Playground to make it a safe and fun place to get out and play!

Group- Ladybug Gardeners and FUNDOG

Time- 9:00 am- 12:00 pm

Meeting Location: Day and Sanchez Streets, in the Gymnasium Office

Join the Ladybug Gardeners and FUNDOG for a volunteer workday at the Upper Noe Recreation
Center. FUNDOG is coordinating with the LadyBugs for gardening and a general dog
 run cleanup. The Ladybug Gardeners is made up of Noe Valley residents who use and
care about neighborhood parks and recreation facilities. Lend a hand in beautifiying
the gardens and facilities of the Upper Noe Rec Center garden to make it safe and
fun place to get out and play!

Glen Canyon Renovation Community Meetings in June and July

As many of you may know, thanks to the community  planning process in 2010-2011,
 which identified the needs for renovation  and improvement of the facilities at
 Glen Canyon Park, not only is the  playground and tennis court renovation in construction
 now, the Recreation Center Building Renovation was funded by voters in  the 2012
Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond!

Please come and be a part of this process.  We will  provide opportunities to be
 involved in person at the community  meetings, also by email and web, where we 
will post meeting materials.   We really hope many of you that have been involved
 developing the plan for the recreation center renovation in the  meetings in 2010,
2011 and 2012 come and new people come as well!
