Wondering if anyone has gone through this and has
advice...We have an almost 3-year old boy, and 15 month
old twin girls. Our boy has a preference for one of the
girls, to the extent that he says "I like A but I don't
like B". He also pushes and hits B, but rarely A.
Normal toddler pushy stuff, but often makes his sister
cry. Most of it seems to be based on jealousy to get
attention (mom / dad paying more attention to sibling
than him). We're trying to teach him to express himself
with words instead of hitting, and talk about how it
makes his sister feel. So, is it normal for an older
sibling to prefer one to the other? Is there anything
we can / should do? Any words of wisdom from those
who've lived through this phase?

We LOVE our bugaboo donkey, and fits your requested
needs, though it would be pricey if it's rarely used.

We really like Dr. Stafford. We started with someone we
didn't love - just didn't really connect, and I didn't
really like her attitude. At a lactation nurse
appointment (I LOVED all the lactation nurses at SF
Kaiser), I mentioned having a hard time with our
current doctor, and the nurse reviewed the list of
doctors accepting patients with me. When she saw Dr.
Stafford was accepting patients, she said we should
JUMP on that - that she's one of the best
pediatricians, she trains the younger doctors, and that
it will be a real loss to the hospital if/when she
retires. So we switched to her, and we've been happy.
She's pretty laid back, and our visits are always
short... but we haven't had any significant health
problems since the kids were released from the NICU. In
fact, we've only taken them in for something other than
a well visit twice in the past two years, and both
times the problem ended up being minor. We joke about
how many times she's told us that we're great parents,
when she really hasn't spent much time with us... but
that said, who doesn't want to hear that?! Anyway, I
recommend her!

Topic: Infant Daycare vs nanny?
Hi there - wondering if anyone puts their kids in daycare
(vs a nanny). I checked...

We were planning on sending our kids to daycare (we
were planning on one kid, and had never considered a
nanny) but when we investigated, it turned out that the
daycares we found were either the same price (for two)
as a nanny, or even more expensive. We didn't look that
hard - we really only wanted something near our house -
so there might be cheaper options out there. But
daycare has holidays you have to find coverage for (a
home based daycare we liked near our house had 3 weeks
off - two in winter, one in summer - plus seventeen
other single days off.) So we'd end up spending more on
coverage for those days. And if the kids get sick, you
have to keep them home. And the nanny is much more
flexible if I need to work late, something comes up,
etc. And, as others have mentioned, the nanny does some
cleaning, food prep, laundry, etc. Good luck with
whatever you choose!

Good point on the kids getting sick. When we briefly
had all 3 in daycare we got called at least once a week
to pick someone up and then take a day off to keep
someone at home. Stressful!
