I'm touring preschools for the Fall, and one preschool
I looked at unexpectedly has immediate openings. I
figured I'd post in case anyone is looking for spaces
to start now. It's Angelina's preschool, at Noriega and
26th. I didn't see anything in the archives about the
preschool, but saw some good feedback about their
daycare, which is at a different location. I personally
think it's a lovely place, but my kids don't go there
yet. While I'm posting, does anyone have feedback on
the school? This is from Vivianne, the director:Two
Full-Time Openings at Angelina's PreschoolDue to a
family having to relocate because of work we have two
immediate openings. Angelina's Preschool is a small and
intimate private establishment located in the Outer
Sunset district of San Francisco. Angelina's Preschool
is a loving and nurturing setting with an equally
sociable community of families. Angelina's academic
foundation is based on teaching very
loving with our boys and was a calming influence in our
home (we are first time parents). If you would like a
more detailed recommendation, please feel free to
tentmail me. And, feel free to reach out to Marcia
directly - 415-336-6311. I can't say enough great
things about her.

Hi, not sure that I can answer all your questions but
I'm going through the process right now with my twins.
The letters for all the private schools get mailed this
Thurs 3/14/13 and the public schools on Fri 3/15/13.
So our fate will be determined later this week. So,
here's a shot at answering the best I can now:1) Yes,
we are staying in the city for kindergarten -- at least
I sure hope so after all the work we have put into this
process!2) No, we sent our twins to preschool here in
the city.3) No such thing as feeder preschools to get
into the elementary schools. I do think some
preschools are better known to admissions directors
than others -- but even that would vary from admissions
director to admissions director.4) The "good" schools
is a subjective term -- not easy to answer. SF has
many good schools, both public and private, and they
vary a lot in terms of what they offer. So you'll have
to check them out yourself and talk to other parents to
get a better sense on what is a "good" school for you
and your family.5) Hidden gems -- not sure but there
are 3 newer private schools that people seem to like:
Alta Vista, Marin Prep and Presidio Knolls (Chinese
immersion) and many publics, although I can't say that
they are 'hidden'.6) Since we are waiting our fate
right now, I can't answer some of these other
questions. We did apply to both public and private.
We are waiting to see what we get before we make a
decision on which way to go.Hope this helps. The best
thing to do is to start talking to parents who have
been through this process as they will be helpful in
guiding you how to start thinking about the process. I
started doing so when my twins were 3 and it was
helpful. I looked at the public schools in the fall of
2011 and the private schools in the fall of 2012. We
were applying for kindergarten for the 2013-2014
season.

Good luck! And yes to diaper changes on laps - I do it
all the time on planes, as long as I'm sure there are
no "surprises" in there (sheepish shrug - gotta do what
you gotta do!). Get a good changing mat - like the
patemm ones that cover a good area - incase you do need
to use the disgusting airplane bathrooms.

Hi Megan,I flew alone with my kids when they were 5
months old and about 18 months old and actually am
doing it again on Tuesday. They are now 26 months old.
I also just went ahead and did security by myself,
too, bc we had traveled enough with the kids that I
felt comfortable doing it alone. Have you traveled
with them before? Here is my advice:1.) Limit your
liquid intake as heading to the bathroom once on the
plane is tough. 2.) United and American airlines have
an awful rule - no strollers allowed at gate check over
20lbs. That is next to impossible if you have a double
stroller. Its easy to sneak through as long as the
stroller isnt present when you check your bags.
Soooo...curbside check. Have your husband walk away
with the stroller and then you take your kids over to
the stroller and move on (quickly). TSA could care
less - its not their rule and to be honest it totally
depends on the person checking your bags.3.) Disregard
any "rules' you have about screen time. Bring some
dvd's and/or videos on your iPad. Think Baby Einstein.
Even if it buys you 20 minutes of stillness, its worth
it.4.) Bring an ergo. 5.) If you are still nursing,
disregard this next idea....if not, buy premixed
formula. They sell formula in liquid form, but you
need to make sure you buy the disposable nipples, too.
5.) New toys.6.) Comfortable clothes for you. 7.)
Rather than a diaper bag, try something like a large LL
Bean bag. Inside that bag, have things packed in
bags/compartments. I will write again if I think about
more. Feel free to email me with any questions.
lisamudd at gmail.com8.) most important: make sure there
is a glass of wine for you at the finish line. It
sucks and then...its over. You can do it! And depend
on the kindness of strangers. This sweet old man sat
next to me when the kids were 5 months old. He was so
darling and loved playing peek-a-boo with the kids,
dangling his shiny watch, etc.... He was so sweet.
People will recognize that traveling with two by
yourself is not easy and they will offer their help.
Good luck!!

Oh, also - United doesnt have family boarding anymore.
Try to plead early on. If not, remember to depend on
the kindness of strangers.
