1. Invitation & RSVP: Mom's Night Out (MNO)
--------------------------------------------------------
sfsharona - 3/20/2013 7:00 pm

Please join us at Aqua Spa for a very special Mom's
Night Out! Wine and appetizers will be covered by
SFPOM. As a very special treat for the first 15 ladies
who RSVP - the club will put $20 towards a mani/pedi
for you! You'll need only to cover the balance which
is $15 plus any tip. (Mani/Pedi's are $35)While
everyone is welcome to enjoy a service, the club can
only cover the first 15 people who RSVP. If we have a
no show from that group, we can then go down the wait
list. All are invited to attend and enjoy a drink,
snacks and socializing regardless of whether or not you
have a service so we hope to see as many of you as
 possible. Expectant Mom's - You're Mom's too so this
includes you too :)In order to ensure the salon is
staffed appropriately for our group, we do need RSVP's
NO LATER than Friday, 3/15.Event Details &

and others, please remember to register at your
assigned school, even if you are going through with
Round 2. Having an assigned spot can only help you
(even if it's a school you don't intend to attend).
Those who do NOT have an assignment and participate in
subsequent rounds are placed AFTER those who are
looking to swap for a higher choice. Dale, your second
daughter will have a sibling priority. Siblings are
the "third" group in the priority "pecking order". A
certain number of spots are saved for foster children
because of the transient nature of their unknown living
arrangements. Then comes placement of children who
request to attend a particular school because of a
medical or family hardship. Historically speaking in
the past few years, there have been very few cases that
have been approved. Now, depending on which program at
Alvarado your first child got into, Spanish immersion
or General, may affect her status (unless she speaks
fluent Spanish). Let me explain. For the immersion
strands in most schools, they try to create a balance
of 50% native speakers in the immersed language and 50%
non-speakers. So, if your first got into the immersion
program, a non-sibling child who speaks Spanish may get
in ahead of your waiting child, if that particular
class needs a native speaker. Whatever you do, keep
going in the process. My boys went through the process
a couple of years ago before the elementary school
feeders were in place. They got assigned to two
different middle schools, and it wasn't until a week
before school started that the second twin got in. The
system definitely got better last year so things should
work out for your second child. In general, I will just
add this comment. San Francisco Unified is an open
school district which means your family can choose from
over 70 elementary schools. Everyone's family
situation is different, depending on where they live
and work, i.e. not all families wish to attend their
neighborhood school. I know of families who have their
children attend school closer to their workplace rather
than home so they can more easily participate in school
activities or reach a sick child faster. My attendance
area school does not offer an immersion program, so I'm
grateful that I have the option of choosing a school
within the district that does. In Kaska's case, in the
eyes of the District, they assigned you schools within
your top 10 listed, which for a lot of families, is a
pretty good outcome. You still have options to
participate in future rounds to try and get one of your
higher ranking choices, but please remember to register
your children so they have a guaranteed spot. Here's a
link to some of the highlights of this first round,

You can check to see if the list of highly requested
schools matches some of the ones on your list, which
could explain how you got your 9th and 10th requested
schools. Good luck to all! Add your comments online:
