1. Eating (not eating) solids at 11 months
--------------------------------------------------------
CEmama - 5/20/2013 3:46 pm

My twins have noticeably reduced their solids intake in
the past week. They might smack the spoon or keep their
mouths shut, even to foods they formally ate well. I
don't force them to eat food and still supplement with
formula but I'm worried they're not eating enough. Any
ideas what might be going on and any recommendations?
If I give them a spare spoon to play with, they'll
usually take a couple more bites of food. Do they want
to feed themselves exclusively now? How does that work
 with purées?

Any members have any experience or recommendations
taking twins for swimming classes? We were looking at
La Petite in the marina as one option:
 http://www.swimlpb.com/In addition, besides swimming
suits for both, any other gear we should be getting
prior to class based on your experience?Thank you

Our 2 have been going to La Petite Baleen since they
just turned 4. They love the school. One of mine has
finished, and the other is working on the last ribbon.
The teachers are great at dealing with fear. Sean did
NOT want to put his face in the water for a while, but
now he swims like a fish! They handle it so well.
Gear: swimsuits and towels and change of clothes are
all you really need. Our two used the school's goggles
but you can bring your own too. We also have them wear
flip flops, but most do not. We didn't for a long time.
FYI. Friends have had lessons on weekends, around
mid-day and had a hard time parking! Just a warning
since the lessons are only 30 minutes, every minute
counts!I've heard good things about Hamilton Pool as
well. The city pools are suppose to be way cheaper. LPB
is a little pricey! It's the best thing we did for our
kids, swim lessons!! Now me and my husband have to
 learn! Ugh!Susan_________________ From: bhavna sheth

We tried to save some money in the early days of our
children taking swim lessons and basically, they
learned how to 'pole dance' on the railing in the
pool...We then made a change and started taking them to
La Petite Baleen in HMB and they really flourished.
One had a hard time adapting (water, change, noise) and
he was supported in that very quickly while the other
had a fear of water of his head and that issue was
worked through quickly as well. I've watched our
children do so well in the program, they have learned
strokes and safety skills consistently, without stress,
and while having fun. The program is well thought out
and executed, it's worth every penny as they have
progressed so quickly. I was so impressed with the
program that I finished their rigorous training a
couple of weeks ago and am now a teacher there. It's a
company with integrity and they treat all with great
respect; they aim to empower and teach excellent swim
skills. I highly recommend it! Best of luck with your
 choices! Vicki

I've heard good things about Pomeroy. I just can't
make any of their class times during the week and the
one Saturday class fills up quickly. They have
recreation hours but you have to reserve your spots.I
took my twins to the Giammona Pool in Daly City during
their open recreation hours recently to see the layout
and water temperature. I heard it ran on the cooler
side. It didn't seem to bother my twins and I got used
to the water temp quickly. I'll probably sign them up
for the next session. It might be worth checking out
the recreation hours for the pools you are considering
 for a test drive.

I'm taking mine to UCSF in Mission Bay starting
Saturday. Not sure if it's any good, but it's close to
me and I wanted to hurry up and get them in a pool.

Not sure what the water temperature is in the pools,
but the water is really warm and comfortable In both
Pomeroy and LPB. We didn't learn much in Pomeroy (kids
were under 2) and moved to LPB SF. The progress there
was amazing! The problems -teachers change often - more
experienced get promoted to be deck managers and new
ones often have very little experience. Parking on a
weekend is tough and not free. Tuition high. But we
still like it and will stay for years to come.I
remember Bakar indoor pool at mission bay also having
warm water, but the outdoor one is rather cold.

8. buying a second stroller?
--------------------------------------------------------
bhavna12 - 5/20/2013 11:26 am

Hello all:We currently have a Baby Jogger - City Select
double stroller for our almost 9 month old boy and
girl. It seems to work good but we are thinking of
adding another stroller for those longer walks, unpaved
areas, and easier to push. We were looking at Bob
double strollers. My husband went to REI (anniversary
sale currently) and "test drove" the stroller and said
he loved it. Any advise or recs from the group on a
second stroller? He did say it was bulkier and might
pose issues putting in our trunk (possibly take off
front wheel) but unsure until we try it out. In
addition, it will pose issues going through doorways
which is why we went with Baby Jogger-City select as
 our first one. Thank youBhavna

Hi Bhavna! If I had to do over again, I'd probably get
a jogging stroller that can be converted into a bike
trailer - not sure if that's something you're
interested in. It might not help with the bulk issue,
though. The Bob is a nice stroller. Really easy to
push, practically glides on its own. REI might allow
you to test out their strollers with your vehicle.

bhavna, we have a bumbleride and i love it. i don't
jog much with it, but use it all around the presidio
and in marin on trails. it's effortlessly smooth, can
steer with one two fingers. it's the width of a
wheelchair which has been CRITICAL!we pushed one around
at natural resources before buying it. LOVE it! the
front tires can lock like a jogger.we also were given
one of these, but haven't used it yet:

 that helps. best, jen
