I'm trying to decide if I should just go to Cpmc or try
to stay with st. Luke's to have our twins.I would like
to try to birth them naturally if possible, and I'm
told Cpmc has a higher cesarean rate.Anyone have any
experiences to share with either hospital? Can you
recommend an ob that is laid back, has a sense of
humor, and is willing to try for a vaginal birth?

I had my twins by C-section at CPMC because I had to.
One of the boys' rear end was lodged in the "natural
exit". :-) I had my singleton naturally, no questions
asked.

CarinSF - 9/12/2013 8:33 pm
I want to give a big thanks to all the families
offering to open up their homes and share their
hard-earned expertise with families with babies on the
way. As of this evening, we have matched 7
parents-to-be with mentors! If you are interested in
participating as either a mentor or mentee, send me an
email with your availability, location, contact info,
and special interests to CarinChou at gmail.com and I'll
add you to my rapidly expanding database.

From my very unscientific observations, I'd say that
mother's helpers charge $10-$15, and nannies/sitters
working alone (i.e., when you're out) are more like
$20-$25. It depends on the age/experience of the
person; I'd say students or teenagers are generally the
cheapest. If the people you are interviewing are older
and more experienced, maybe offer on the higher side of
the helper range?

Halo makes a sleep sack with a Velcro swaddle in it.
Our kids were little Houdinis with any swaddle
(including miracle blanket) but we had pretty good luck
with the Halos. Although we kind of petered out by 3-3
1/2 months as the Velcro was getting old (2nd hand
sacks)

I swaddled mine until they were like 7 months. They
wouldn't sleep without it. Do what your babies like.

Hang in there. I was there too (and my husband still
gripes about how much my excrutiating oregnancy was a
burden in him!) In addition to the prenatal yoga, I
ended up going to prenatal chiropractor a lot. Dr Laura
Sheehan on Irving and 10th. It helped some, but I'll
tell you I was pretty much incapacitated from about
28-30 weeks on and kind of put myself on a modified bed
rest. Sent from my iPad

I have 4.5-month old twins and use the Baby Connect
app. It's great! It can have multiple users from
multiple devices, meaning your nanny/night nanny,
husband, grandma, whoever, can be added and go in to
add wet diapers, breastfeeding times, how much is
pumped, how much was taken from a bottle, nap times,
etc. I actually didn't use it too much in the
beginning, they were having wet/BM diapers every time
so didn't seem to make a difference. Now that they're
older, it's been helpful to keep track of BM diapers,
since sometimes they can start to go awhile and with 2,
you definitely won't remember on your own.As for the
pillow, I have the My Breast Friend double. I used it
for the first 2 months maybe, but one of my twins
really struggled with breastfeeding so around 2 months,
I tried feeding them separately for a bit, with just a
boppy, then eventually gave up on breastfeeding when
that wasn't working either. I found I still needed a
pillow behind my back to stay comfortable when using
the double pillow, but otherwise thought it was great.
Not sure about the Twin Z. If you're interested in the
My Breast friend, I'm ready to sell. It has a removable
cover so can be washed.Oh and the above app is also
great for keeping track of how much is pumped, and
noticing trends if supply goes up or down if you try
taking any herbs or other things to increase milk
supply. I also started tracking how much my twin who
took a bottle ate (not sure why I didn't do this
earlier, I guess b/c I was attempted to bf too), but it
gave me a lot of peace of mind -- he'd be really fussy
at some feedings and take barely anything, but by the
end of the day, he always ends up around the same, so
now I don't push it and everyone is happier.Happy to
answer if you have more specific qs.

Congratulations, sounds like you're doing an amazing
job already! Whatever you choose to do will be fine,
but as someone who is rather determined, I'm now 4.5
months in and still trying to get my supply up. Now
that I've worked with multiple lactation consultants,
there are definitely things I would have done
differently in the beginning that would likely have
helped boost my supply (but you never know) in order to
give my twins all breastmilk. Currently they get about
90%, which I'm fine with, but would love to remove one
step of the already tedious process by getting rid of
formula. My advice is to think about where you ideally
want to be in several months. Do you ideally want to be
breastfeeding both? Or giving as much breast milk as
possible? Or are you okay with supplementing formula?
It sounds like you're open to formula, and that's good,
as for your sanity, that may be the best fit for you.
If you want to try to do all breast milk, I think it's
key to keep up with the pumping. I'm not a lactation
consultant so don't know the exact period, but I would
say at least for the first month or so while you're
still establishing your supply, skipping or dropping a
pump will definitely affect that. While I'm not totally
sure I would have been able to function, I do regret
trying to get on somewhat of a schedule right from the
start instead of letting them nurse on demand which I
think would have helped me establish a better supply. I
also used a nipple shield, for quite a while, and while
it seemed to work, I didn't realize that it also
affects milk production as there's not as much
stimulation. Again, it's a toss up as my twins wouldn't
eat without it so what else could I have done? I guess
I would have tried to get off of it earlier than I did.
I also wasn't as diligent about pumping at the
beginning, and didn't use a hospital grade pump. it's
hard to know if my supply would be better if I had done
all these things differently, but from my visits with
lactation consultants, as well as the endless research
I've done on boosting supply, there's a good chance it
would have.Bottom line, for me, I would have liked to
have given all breast milk, as much for the benefits as
for the ease of not dealing with formula, and looking
back, I wish I had sucked it up for the first few
weeks/month and done the feeding on demand, constant
pumping, etc. But for you, that may not be worth it and
if not, getting any breast milk will still be great for
your babies. One big thing to note, I did have a lot of
help, especially in the beginning, and if you don't,
committing to so much this early is really a lot.As far
as dropping pumps, in my experience, morning pumps
produce a LOT more so don't drop those. I heard pumping
(but ideally breast feeding) at least once between
2-6am is key and I've seen this to be true. Also not
going too long between pumps, not sure of the time
frame at your stage, but I'd stagger pumps evenly (if
you're now doing 9am, noon, 3, don't just drop the noon
but do something like 9am to 1pm). hope that helps!
good luck, you're doing an amazing job!
