Grandparents Day Celebration on September 28

Join Rec & Park Staff at Eureka Valley Recreation Center in the Castro for a special
Grandparents Day Celebration. Create Family Tree Art, work on Family Research, and
share food and stories with your community.

The celebration will also include a special preview of Harvey Milk Photo Center's
upcoming Exhibit: FAMILY - LGBT Celebrating Our Chosen & Extended Families.

U.S. Women's National Soccer Team Plays at Candlestick on October 27

The U.S. Women's National Team will face New Zealand in a pair of friendly matches

National Public Lands Day on September 28

National Public Lands Day- Saturday September 28, 2013 9:00am- 12:00pm

Public Lands Day at Youngblood Coleman Playground on Saturday, September 28, 2013
from 9:00am- 12:00pm.  We'll be celebrating the 20th Anniversary of National Public
Lands Day, the largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands in the United
States.  National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is an opportunity to gather the community
and have individuals and families give back to their local lands. Across the nation,
more than 175,000 volunteers are expected to visit their favorite parks, beaches,
wildlife preserves or forests and chip in to help improve these treasured places.
 At Youngblood Coleman Park, volunteers will perform weeding, litter pick-up, underbrush

Call for Photos: Modern Families Deadline Extended to September 28!

Harvey Milk Photo Center is searching high and low for photos that represent the
 many forms and facets of family within the Bay Area LGBT and straight ally community.
A variety of family units, such as those consisting of parents and children, significant
others, extended family members, friends, and pets, will be showcased in this exhibition.
Snapshots encouraged!

We are seeking old printed photos to be scanned at our facility, as well as digital
images ranging from phone to DSLR quality. Images may be color or black and white,
vintage or current, candid or posed and can include whole families or just a few
 members at a time.

We welcome all ages and skill levels to submit, including kids, teens, adults, and
seniors. Participants are also required to include a brief description (20-250 words)
about their families.

Submission Instructions:
Please submit up to 10 images electronically or in person, along with a brief family
story that's 20-250 words. Please include your full name, phone number, and email
address with your submission. Files must be received by Saturday, September 28 at
4 p.m.

Half Off Golf Instruction Lessons Through October 25

Mitch Lowe, PGA Class A member, has been teaching golf for 17 years in Northern 
California. He has won the Player of the Year award for the Northern California 
PGA five times in 2000, 2005, 2009, 2011 and 2012.  He has participated in multiple
PGA Tour events including the AT&T National Pro-Am and Reno-Tahoe Open as well as
playing in three Majors including; 2009 PGA Championship at Hazeltine CC, the 2010
PGA Championship at Whistling Straits GC and the 2012 PGA Championship at Kiawah
 IslandGC.

Mitch's primary goal is to help players increase their enjoyment of the game by 
giving them the understanding and tools for more efficient practice and better performance
on the golf course.

The focus is always on how the golf club is moving during the swing and what effect
that has on the golf ball.  Any swings changes that are made will be done to directly
correct and improve ball flight.  These changes are made simply and naturally with
easy and manageable swing thoughts which translate into immediate results.  Mitch
specializes in preparing young players for high school and college competition through
solid swing fundamentals, good course management and consistent practice routines.

Marina Family Fest on September 29

The Marina Community Association in partnership with D2 Supervisor Mark Farrell,
 is pleased to host the 3rd annual Marina Family Festival, presented by Xfinity.

The Marina Family Fest will take place on Sunday September 29th, 2013 from 10am 
to 5pm at the Marina Green (corner of Scott Street and Marina Blvd). This is a public
event designed for local families to come and enjoy a variety of entertainment including;
face painters, balloon makers, bounce houses, petting zoos, a climbing wall, music,
gourmet food trucks and a beer & wine garden, as well as local merchant sponsored
booths.

The event is free and open to the public but you must purchase tickets or a wristband
for your kids to enjoy the kid-focused attractions such as the petting zoo, bounce
houses and climbing wall.
