Last Summer at the 'Stick

Have you heard? This year marks the last summer at Candlestick Park, and SF Rec
and Park is putting together an exciting schedule of events to bid our beloved stadium
goodbye. First up, an exhibition soccer match between the U.S. Men's National Team
and Azerbaijan on May 27. Next, the Legends of Candlestick visit the 'Stick for
a flag football game on July 12, featuring 49ers legends Joe Montana, Jerry Rice,
Steve Young, Dwight Clark and Roger Craig and other NFL legends including Dan Marino.
The San Jose Earthquakes soccer team plays host to UEFA's Atletico Madrid on July
27, and on August 14, Sir Paul McCartney of The Beatles and Wings fame will close
out the summer with a highly-anticipated farewell concert at Candlestick, where
he and his fellow Beatles gave the band's last public performance back in 1966.

TED Talks: How Public Spaces Make Cities Work

More than 8 million people are crowded together to live in New York City. What
makes it possible? In part, it's the city's great public spaces - from tiny pocket
parks to long waterfront promenades - where people can stroll and play. Amanda
Burden helped plan some of the city's newest public spaces, drawing on her experience
as, surprisingly, an animal behaviorist. She shares the unexpected challenges of
planning parks people love - and why it's important.

Show Your Bike Some Love

San Francisco SAFE (Safety Awareness for Everyone), the SFPD's non-profit partner
in crime prevention and public safety, offers a free, voluntary bike registration
program to everyone who rides in the City. SAFE Bikes [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001ZJJ0xJ-Yl9inFOe-3cGwPLNrLwVsyDOEonb399brs4Ph308OxEyeBRr56M9YRm73HD9TJsF_XYKsysHTCs3yqABFH4qcTFB2mYshZQ7LNQAMLdFV4sqw_x8nhiDTIblOe4jbhsW8yR4Eyt28ZmKQ5I8nFGfOcmvgvZBWwmI4PDA=&c=_leMgwrynC4878ysF3AWiZrOhPTW0JQvmhITxG-AN_eGHDpkTvNyvA==&ch=Lo4vXMHvkzB7f6SHojm9cJ97ruCMEDmkTtuD7IIXqe6tZdWRISosxg==]

effective locking techniques, and reunite recovered bicycles with their owners.

Cyclists who register at SAFE Bikes [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001ZJJ0xJ-Yl9inFOe-3cGwPLNrLwVsyDOEonb399brs4Ph308OxEyeBRr56M9YRm73HD9TJsF_XYKsysHTCs3yqABFH4qcTFB2mYshZQ7LNQAMLdFV4sqw_x8nhiDTIblOe4jbhsW8yR4Eyt28ZmKQ5I8nFGfOcmvgvZBWwmI4PDA=&c=_leMgwrynC4878ysF3AWiZrOhPTW0JQvmhITxG-AN_eGHDpkTvNyvA==&ch=Lo4vXMHvkzB7f6SHojm9cJ97ruCMEDmkTtuD7IIXqe6tZdWRISosxg==]

Nature in the City's Bioblitz on May 4

Join Nature in the City for a grassroots, smartphone-powered bioblitz to catalogue
every living species they can identify in a string of natural areas in the Golden
Gate Heights neighborhood.

They'll be blitzing Hawk Hill, Golden Gate Heights Park, Rock Outcrop, Grandview
Park, and the 10 habitat patches Nature in the City has established in the neighborhood
since 2007, all to help the beautiful green hairstreak butterfly!
You bring your smart phone and tons of enthusiasm. We'll rally some experts and
folks who know the area, plus some delicious Arizmendi pastries to start the day
and a stack of pizzas to end it. Together we'll make some science!
A Bio-Blitz is an intensive one-day study of biodiversity in a specific location,
bringing scientists and volunteer citizen-scientists together. We'll look for birds,
mammals, reptiles, butterflies, insects, spiders, trees, flowers, mushrooms, even
slime molds!
People of all ages and skill levels are welcome! Bring your smart phone for sure.
Bonuses to bring: camera, binoculars, and magnifying glasses. We'll enter observations
in iNaturalist and join together at the end to find out how many observations we
made and how many species we found. Past blitzes in Oakland, San Francisco, and
San Mateo have averaged 1000 observations and 200+ species each. Hooray!
Don't have an iNat account yet? No problem! Sign up for an iNaturalist account [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001ZJJ0xJ-Yl9inFOe-3cGwPLNrLwVsyDOEonb399brs4Ph308OxEyeBRr56M9YRm73UZEIAPdeZNHatHPunp6ddN9A0DOh3pjrrHAYh1EsRyQb4Mk1-T30IgLfN4wzY_2TePnAN2bW4lWXM_s8k_1GdqjQu_Sz-7vmth2Wmp_Y5wswDfwahlOdEUf4o_E1Rt6qcwTJQ67Hith8NRaf7VdkRL2OZen2V0s-LD-PL3VMkeKft5Kimbmp3OhtNwre7O8w&c=_leMgwrynC4878ysF3AWiZrOhPTW0JQvmhITxG-AN_eGHDpkTvNyvA==&ch=Lo4vXMHvkzB7f6SHojm9cJ97ruCMEDmkTtuD7IIXqe6tZdWRISosxg==],
