Rec and Park's Junior Acting Troupe from the Harvey Milk Center for the Arts presents
"Hush, An Interview with America" at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 12 and Saturday,
 December 13, at the Mission Art Rec Center (745 Treat Street).  Refreshments and
raffle prizes! Admission is free but donations happily accepted through the SF Parks

Boeddeker Park: Breathing New Life into the Tenderloin

The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, in partnership with The Trust 
for Public Land (TPL) and the Tenderloin community, hosted a grand reopening celebration
of Boeddeker Park on December 10 after a much-anticipated $9.3 million renovation.

Mayor Ed Lee, along with Senator Mark Leno, District 6 Supervisor Jane Kim, the 
Recreation and Park Commission, GM Phil Ginsburg and TPL's California State Director,
Gina Fromer, led the ribbon cutting ceremony that marks a new beginning for a park
in one of the city's most challenged neighborhoods.

Nearly an acre in size in the heart of the Tenderloin, Boeddeker Park is the largest
park in the neighborhood, a neighborhood that has the highest percentage of households
living below the poverty line and that's one of the most population dense districts
in the city, with very limited open space.

Originally opened in 1985, the park is named for beloved local pastor Father Alfred
Boeddeker, whose family was also on hand at the celebration event.

Mayor Kicks Off Holiday Season with 85th Annual Tree Lighting

Mayor Ed Lee, Supervisor Mark Farrell, DA George Gascon, Assessor Carmen Chu and
 Recreation and Park Commissioners Mark Buell, Allan Low, Gloria Bonilla, Tom Harrison,
Meagan Levitan and Maggie Wei, joined Rec and Park and thousands of kids and parents
for our 85th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting on December 4.

The event included sledding, a snow play area, carnival rides, games, crafts, a 
cookie factory, live entertainment and, of course, Santa, who arrived in style via
a San Francisco Fire Department engine.

Our final workshop for individuals or groups interested in making improvements at

Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest at Sunset Rec on December 13

Rec and Park, in partnership with the SF Elks Lodge, No.3, invites all girls and
 boys, ages 8-13, for our annual Hoop Shoot Contest at Sunset Rec Center (2201 Lawton
Street), Saturday, December 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  No pre-registration necessary.
