 We are considering hiring a nanny, but before we do I was
 wondering if it's standard...

 Our first year with our nanny she worked 4 days a week
 (40 hours) and we offered her 5 paid vacation days a
 year plus I think 2 (maybe 3) sick days. Then I started
 working full time again so we bumped her up to 5 days a
 week (50 hours) and switched to 10 paid days off a year
 that she can use as she chooses (sick or vacation). We
 try to work together to schedule our vacations at the
 same time but there have been times (around Christmas)
 when she was willing to work but we didn't need her so
 she got some extra paid days off. If you offer two
 weeks I think it would be a great idea to write into
 the contract that one week is agreed upon and the other
 up to her. I think that's pretty standard. I kind of
 wish we had that done but it's not a big deal - our
 nanny works so hard, I don't know how she does it!- so
 I don't begrudge her a few extra paid days off.
