1. Breast Feeding moms - how often do you pump?

I have 3 week old b/g twins. We had slow start breast
feeding, but it is starting to get easier. A few days
ago I changed from a 3 hour feeding schedule to on
demand (meaning i feed the first twin when he/she
indicates desire and then I wake the other to feed). I
also stopped topping off during the day. I'm now
feeding them every 2-3 hours during the day (bottle
feeding ebm at night). They each take about 30min to
feed/burp and then extra time to change them. When I
was doing a 3 hour schedule with top off, the feelings
were shorter and I pumped immediately after each
feeding. As of a few days ago my supply is at need and
I'm actually starting to have a surplus. For those
that breast fed only (no top off or formula ), how
often did/do you pump in the first 6 weeks and for how
long per session? I would love to cut down on the
pumping without negatively affecting my supply. Also,
on another note, I'm in extreme pain for the first
minute or two after latch (nipple pain), with both
twins. Per an LC, their latches look good. I'm
wondering if it is the Breast feeding or the pumping
that is causing the pain - or just what seem to be
constant use. Any suggestions? It's so painful I'm
almost ready to give up breast feeding.

Yes! Attend the Toddler Support Group if you can, and
sign up for that online subgroup (although I'm not sure
how active it is.) It's a challenging time, but it
DOES pass, and there are some tricks and tips out there
that can be helpful. "How to Talk so your kids will
listen, and listen so your kids will talk" is not
toddler-specific, but overall helpful... and another
one, called something like, "If I have to tell you one
more time..." has some good tips about
attention-getting, and the need for kiddos to feel some
sense of power and control. Their little brains are
developing so fast, and there are a lot of challenges
during that time... but they don't last forever.Good
luck, and hang in there! I hope you're able to get
some help/moral support from the group!
