1. C section advice - recovery and breastfeeding

I'm 37 weeks and scheduled for a c section at UCSF on
Feb 1st because baby A is breech. I've read a bunch
about c sections and talked to a couple people.
However, I'd love to hear any advice from folks who
have had c section on things that might have been
helpful to know in advance, strategies on a quick
recovery, and how to best approach breastfeeding at the
hospital from the get go.Thanks so much!

I delivered my twins via c-section in October.Best
advice I have:1. Take all of your prescribed pain meds
on time. 2. Get up as SOON as they will let you. Same
goes for walking. And showering.3. Request a belly
binder and start wearing it over clothes by Day 2/3.4.
Bring the My Brest Friend for Twins pillow (preferably
still in the plastic case to avoid gross hospital
germs) and use it from the start.5. Don't be alarmed if
you are still too groggy to successfully breastfeed
during your first attempt.6. Attempt tandem-feeding by
Day 2/3. Mastering this is why I am still
breastfeeding, otherwise I am pretty certain I would
have given up due to time constraints.7. Ask for the
lactation consultant to visit EVERY DAY you are there.
Disregard any funny looks you receive, you are
attempting a Herculean task and need all the support
you can get.8. Start applying Lanolin to your nipples
on a daily basis NOW.9. Send the babies to the nursery
at night to catch a few fragments of sleep.10. Appoint
someone to be in charge of remembering to feed you on a
consistent basis, it is really easy to forget. Also, I
drank cranberry juice like a fiend for the energy boost
 AND to help prevent a catheter-incurred UTI.11. Don't
be alarmed if you have to supplement with formula a few
days in, it is still 100% possible to successfully
breastfeed (and removing the concern of whether the
babies are getting enough can only be beneficial by
eliminating that particular stress).12. Start pumping
with a hospital-grade pump after EVERY session. Rent
the same pump to take home with you.13. Appoint someone
else to be baby-feeding ambassador. Their
responsibilities include handing you the babies for
feeding and cleaning/drying/prepping pump and bottle
parts. That's all I can think of at the moment, feel
free to email me at leah(dot)sakamoto(at)gmail(dot)com
with any additional questions.PS - I also did a lot of
reading and my c-section was not nearly as bad as I
anticipated. These were my first children, but I can't
imagine delivering any other way. What can I say, I
like a sure thing ;)Best of luck!Leah
