World Cup Finals Viewing Party: Germany vs. Argentina on July 13

Bay Area, has been bringing you live broadcasts of World Cup soccer action this

Summer at the 'Stick" series of farewell events supporting youth sports, on Sunday,

Celebrating National Park and Recreation Month in July

July is National Park and Recreation Month and it's time get out and visit one or
all of our 220 parks in San Francisco! The National Recreation and Park Association
(NRPA) and SF Rec and Park are challenging you to take one indoor activity outdoors
everyday in July. #JulyOUTisIN

Social Media Challenge

This July, we're asking you to show us how you can spend more time OUTdoors and 
IN your parks and recreation sites by posting photos of you or your friends, family,
coworkers and community members doing typical indoor activities outside every day
in July.

You could eat a healthy meal outside - who doesn't love a picnic in the park - make
a phone call to mom, hold a meeting or exercise class in the fresh air, step outside
to brush your teeth, or even sleep out in the open (happy camping)! Use your imagination-the
possibilities are endless!

NRPA will be giving away a $50 Amazon gift card every day at random for those that
post a photo that shows an indoor activity being done outside on Instagram or Twitter
with the hashtag #JulyOUTisIN!  They'll also be giving away a whopping $500 Amazon
gift card Grand Prize at random on August 1 to one lucky contest participant who

Lake Merced Boathouse Reopens After $3.2 Million Renovation

For recreation junkies like Rec and Park GM Phil Ginsburg, above, it doesn't get
 much better than San Francisco's own Lake Merced, where visitors can golf, fish,
hike, bike, boat, paddle board and kayak around.  On July 8, Ginsburg celebrated
 the reopening of the Lake Merced Boathouse with Supervisor Norman Yee, the San 
Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC)'s GM Harlan Kelly, Jr., Tom Hui from
the Department of Building Inspection, and community members.

The $3.2 million improvement project included the renovation of approximately 7,200
square feet of the upper floor of the existing Lake Merced Boathouse, including 
demolition of existing interior partitions, finishes, equipment and fixtures. Spaces
for the foyer, restrooms, catering, changing rooms, office have been reconfigured,
along with renovation of the concession, community room and rowing exercise spaces,
with scope including new floor, ceiling, and wall finishes, fixtures, interior doors
and windows, lighting, and associated MEP, data, and fire alarm upgrades.

Lake Merced, a large freshwater lake in San Francisco's southwestern corner, is 
the heart of a 614-acre park that is popular with boaters, hikers, bicyclists, and
birdwatchers. The park is bounded by three golf courses, including city-owned TPC
Harding Park. A 4.5-mile paved trail circles the lake's perimeter; facilities include
many picnic areas, a fishing pier, a boat launch and now, an impressive new boathouse.

TPC Harding to Host Trio of Professional Events in Coming Years

Great news for golf fans! The world's best professional players are returning to
 the city's own TPC Harding Park, beginning with the WGC Match Play Championship
 in 2015, the PGA Championship in 2020 and the Presidents Cup in 2025.  Read more

Street Soccer USA Mini-Pitch Opens at Margaret Hayward Playground

Dozens of Western Addition neighborhood kids joined Supervisor London Breed, Street
Soccer USA, the US Soccer Foundation, the San Jose Earthquakes and Rec and Park 
to officially open a new mini-pitch at Margaret Hayward Playground on Monday, July
7.  The new soccer court comes courtesy of Street Soccer USA, which uses soccer 
as a catalyst for social change by providing not only opportunities for sports and
play, but life-skills and employment programs for communities in cities across the
country. Up for a Walk This Saturday, July 12?

Healthy Parks, Healthy People presents a weekend walk around Lake Merced. Meet at
10 a.m. this Saturday in front of the newly reopened Lake Merced Boathouse, 1 Harding
Park Road. Our friendly RPD Guides will begin with some light stretching, followed
by socializing, bird watching, and relaxing walk around San Francisco's only freshwater
lake. Please bring water and sunscreen. The staff will have first aid equipment 
and are certified in CPR. Families and Community groups are always welcome! For

Reflections Photo Exhibit Kicks Off on July 17

The Harvey Milk Photo Center, in partnership with our citywide senior programs,
