Legends of Candlestick Don't Disappoint

With the clock winding down, quarterback Joe Montana rallied his teammates and drove
down the field for the winning touchdown against Dan Marino and his team of all-stars.
 No, it wasn't 1984 but a windy Saturday this past weekend at Candlestick Park, 
as Joe and his fellow former-49ers laced up the cleats one last time for a farewell
flag football game at the venerable old stadium.  "The Legends of Candlestick" game
was one of several events going on this season celebrating the Last Summer at the

Saturday's event was the perfect way to bid farewell to a stadium that has provided
so many memories for fans and players alike.

Celebrating National Park and Recreation Month in July

July is National Park and Recreation Month and it's time get out and visit one or
all of our 220 parks in San Francisco! The National Recreation and Park Association
(NRPA) and SF Rec and Park are challenging you to take one indoor activity outdoors
everyday in July. #JulyOUTisIN

Social Media Challenge

This July, we're asking you to show us how you can spend more time OUTdoors and 
IN your parks and recreation sites by posting photos of you or your friends, family,
coworkers and community members doing typical indoor activities outside every day
in July.

You could eat a healthy meal outside - who doesn't love a picnic in the park - make
a phone call to mom, hold a meeting or exercise class in the fresh air, step outside
to brush your teeth, or even sleep out in the open (happy camping)! Use your imagination-the
possibilities are endless!

NRPA will be giving away a $50 Amazon gift card every day at random for those that
post a photo that shows an indoor activity being done outside on Instagram or Twitter
with the hashtag #JulyOUTisIN!  They'll also be giving away a whopping $500 Amazon
gift card Grand Prize at random on August 1 to one lucky contest participant who

World Cup SF Wraps Up

Congratulations to Germany, which won the 2014 World Cup title on Sunday, July 13.

New Soccer Camp in Partnership with America SCORES Bay Area Set to Kick Off

The passion and excitement of the World Cup have ended but soccer lives on in the
Civic Center. Starting next week, America SCORES in partnership with SF Rec and 
Park, will kick off a new camp that incorporates soccer, creative expression, and
community building.  At camp, kids will explore authentic expression of body and
 mind through soccer clinics, team challenges, crafts, storytelling, poetry, and

Reflections Photo Exhibit Kicks Off on July 17

The Harvey Milk Photo Center, in partnership with our citywide senior programs, 
presents Reflections: Photography Captured @ 55+, beginning July 17 and running

National Park and Rec Month Volunteer Day at Sue Bierman Park on July 23

In honor of National Park and Recreation Month, Rec and Park will host a special
 volunteer day at Sue Bierman Park on July 23, from 9 a.m. to noon.  Activities

Young People's Teen Musical Theatre Company's "The Apple Tree" Begins July 25

The Young People's Teen Musical Theatre Company presents "The Apple Tree," July 
25 through August 3, at the Randall Museum (199 Museum Way). "The  Apple Tree" features
three short musicals based on stories by Mark  Twain, Frank R. Stockton and Jules
Feiffer with each musical comedy  vignette highlighting a message about moral values.
The first act is  based on Mark Twain's "The Diary of Adam and Eve," the second 
act is  based on Frank R. Stockton's "The Lady or the Tiger?" and the third act 
 is based on Jules Feiffer's "Passionella."  Tickets are $10 to $15.  Click here
