Street Soccer USA National Cup Event at Civic Center, August 15-17

Street Soccer USA plays for more than just winning or losing. It plays to better
 itself, to better its community, and to better the world. Its mission is to improve
health, education, and employment outcomes for the most disadvantaged through sports.
Street Soccer USA also seeks to raise awareness about the challenges of poverty 
in America so that as a country we can develop a more level playing field for all.

Join us at the 4v4 Street Soccer USA Cup 2014 in Civic Center Plaza where program
teams from 16 cities will celebrate their goals on and off the field.

National Park and Rec Month Recognition: SFPD Keeping our Parks Clean and Safe

In celebration of National Park and Recreation Month, general manager Phil Ginsburg
and the Recreation and Park Commission recognized two retiring members of the San
Francisco Police Department (SFPD) at City Hall on July 17.  Each with 33 years 
of service, officers Lewis Fong (Honda Motorcycle Unit) and Bob Ramos (Richmond 
Station) have played critical roles in helping to keep Golden Gate Park safe for
 gardeners, staff and the public, particularly in light of an unprecedented spate
of vandalism in the park over the past few years.  In the above photo, Fong (fourth
from right) and Ramos (fifth from right) are flanked by Recreation and Park Commission
President Mark Buell (light blazer); SFPD Commander Garret Tom (fourth from left);
GM Phil Ginsburg (plaid blazer); and members of the SFPD and Rec and Park's Park

Remember, July is National Park and Recreation Month and it's time get out  and 
visit one or all of our 220 parks in San Francisco! The National  Recreation and
 Park Association (NRPA) and SF Rec and Park are  challenging you to take one indoor
activity outdoors everyday in July. #JulyOUTisIN

Take Time to Visit the Arch of Colonial Trees in Golden Gate Park

One of the best places in Golden Gate Park for a picnic is also a reflection of 
our nation's history. Near the Pioneer Log Cabin is a grove of trees gathered from
historic sites of the Revolutionary War. In 1896, the Daughters of the American 
Revolution (DAR) requested thirteen trees from East Coast chapters to provide a 
serene reminder of the early struggles to bring the United States into being.

Several of the original trees survive today, while others have needed replacement
over time. Recently, La Puerta de Oro - San Francisco Chapter received matching 
funds from the National DAR to plant three replacement trees so that each of the
 thirteen colonies is once again represented. Maps of the area with keys to the

Young People's Teen Musical Theatre Company's "The Apple Tree" Begins July 25

The Young People's Teen Musical Theatre Company presents "The Apple Tree," July 
25 through August 3, at the Randall Museum (199 Museum Way). "The  Apple Tree" features
three short musicals based on stories by Mark  Twain, Frank R. Stockton and Jules
Feiffer with each musical comedy  vignette highlighting a message about moral values.
The first act is  based on Mark Twain's "The Diary of Adam and Eve," the second 
act is  based on Frank R. Stockton's "The Lady or the Tiger?" and the third act
