Fall is just around the corner! Our fall registration period begins Saturday, August
2 at 10 a.m.-online or in person at 13 sites around the city.  You can log onto

Street Soccer USA National Cup Event at Civic Center, August 15-17

Street Soccer USA plays for more than just winning or losing. It plays to better
 itself, to better its community, and to better the world. Its mission is to improve
health, education, and employment outcomes for the most disadvantaged through sports.
Street Soccer USA also seeks to raise awareness about the challenges of poverty 
in America so that as a country we can develop a more level playing field for all.

Join us at the 4v4 Street Soccer USA Cup 2014 in Civic Center Plaza where program
teams from 16 cities will celebrate their goals on and off the field.

* PLAY: Play in the Cup      and registration fees support Street Soccer USA's program
during the year
* VOLUNTEER: Signup to      volunteer with you and your kids to learn about how 
soccer in changing the      lives of at-risk and homeless youth in SF
* CHEER: Come to the      Opening Ceremonies on Friday August 15th at 12:00pm and
cheer on the teams      throughout the weekend

National Park and Rec Month Recognition: Greenagers at the Board of Supervisors

Congratulations to the members of Rec and Park's Greenagers Program, which received
a special commendation from the Board of Supervisors on July 29. The Board of Supervisors
also recognized National Park and Recreation Month by declaring July Park and Rec
Month in San Francisco.
The Greenagers Program, a  partnership between the San Francisco Recreation and 
Park Department, Port of San Francisco and the San Francisco Parks Alliance, is 
an extension of  Rec and Park's Youth Stewardship Program, which offers teens a 
chance to play an important role in helping their communities and improving their
city's green spaces. Greenagers take field trips to different parks and open spaces
in the city's southeast area, meet with program staff, research issues they're interested
in, and use parks and open spaces to create projects based on what they find. During
the process, participants meet and work with teens their own age,  gain crucial 
skills in leading workshops, develop soft job skills, and learn about networking,
public speaking, teamwork, environmental education, habitat restoration, park beautification
and community engagement.

Saturday in the Park McLaren Concert Series Kicks Off in August

The Friends of the Amp (Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in McLaren Park) announces the
 2014 Saturday in the Park McLaren Concert Series beginning August 9.  These free
concerts feature an eclectic mix of genres, including R&B, Classic Rock, Bluegrass,
International Music and the Blues.  All concerts begin at 1 p.m.  For more information

New Heron Chicks at Stow Lake

We have three new chicks at Stow Lake! Because of this exciting new event, San Francisco
Nature Education will be staffing a Summer Heron Watch at Stow Lake.We will be out
there Saturdays August 2, 9, 16 and 23, from 10 a.m.-12 noon. Free! Please bring
 the kids, neighbors and friends! We will be using spotting scopes and answering
 questions about this late next; the chicks hatched about June 25 and are now about
a month old.

To find the Observation Site, face the water at the Stow Lake Boathouse and walk
 or drive to the left. Our Site is just around the corner on the grass. Our signs
will be up.     The Heron Watch Observation Site is located on the grass.
