World Cup Viewings Return to Civic Center in June and July

San Francisco Recreation and Parks and America SCORES Bay Area are teaming up again
to bring you live broadcasts of World Cup soccer action at Civic Center beginning
this Saturday, June 14.  Throughout the month of June, we'll be hosting viewing 
parties of several tournament matches, including England versus Italy on June 14,
and the U.S. team's matches versus Ghana on June 16, Portugal on June 22, and Germany
on June 26.  Then, in July, we'll host the highly anticipated semi-finals and finals.

Free Zumba in the Parks This Summer!

Rec and Park is offering over 20 FREE Zumba classes throughout our park system this
summer! Come and experience Rec and Park's five new Zumba instructors and six new
Zumba in the Park locations.  Zumba is a Latin-inspired, cardio dance workout,  
a great way to get outside, meet new friends, burn some calories and have FUN! Come

Recreation and Park Employees Get Hale and Hearty at Annual Health Fair

Rec and Park recently hosted its annual Employee Health Fair at McLaren Lodge in
 Golden Gate Park. Over 100 employees attended the fair and participated in our 
first ever Let's Move! Department Olympics, which included competitions in archery,
rock climbing, a hula hoop contest, sack races, a free-throw contest, and disc golf.

Staff also had access to free health screenings, acupuncture, and massages, and 
representatives from different City departments and organizations spoke with employees
about their wellness programs.

Special thanks to all the staff who participated, and to Bi-Rite Market, Whole Foods
Market, Sports Basement, Sutter Health, the American College of Traditional Chinese
Medicine, the SFPUC, SF Environment, HSS, DEM, Balance Motion Health, the Bay Area
Air Quality Management District, Jody Moore, and all the other organizations who
 made the event a success.

Rec and Park employees are putting into practice what they encourage the public 
to do every day, which is to "Get out and play."

Celebrate Pride Month with SF Rec and Park

Celebrate Pride Month with SF Rec and Park! Each week in June we'll be highlighting
a person, program or park that has had a significant impact on our department. We'll
also let you know about some great upcoming events, including volunteer events and
the Pride celebration event at Civic Center on June 28 and 29, where you can stop
by our table and pick up a complimentary flying disc, sticker, magnet or party beads.

W.O.W. Dodgeball Tournament on June 20

Register now for the 2014 W.O.W. (Women-On-Women) Dodgeball Tournament, June 20,
 at Eureka Valley Rec Center in the Castro neighborhood.  In celebration of Pride
Month, you and your team can compete for bragging rights at our annual tournament.

Sunday Storytime Hour with the Cartoon Art Museum Kicks Off June 22

The Cartoon Art Museum is excited to announce that it will be hosting a monthly 
children's story time one Sunday each month beginning on Sunday, June 22nd from 
11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday's event will feature Jon Klassen stories, This Is Not
My Hat and I Want My Hat Back. The event is free with admission to the Cartoon Art

Honey Tasting and Pollinator's Tour at the SF Botanical Garden on June 28

In celebration of Pollinator's Week, join the San Francisco Botanical Garden in 
Golden Gate Park on Saturday, June 28, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., for an array of honey
flavors and textures harvested by local beekeeper Robert Mackimmie from City Bees,
a guided pollinator's garden tour, and a discussion of Urban Beekeeping. Join the
SF Beekeeper's Association on beeswax candle making demos as well as other bee related
crafts. Rec Idol Returns This Summer

Teen and young adult singers, dancers, acrobats, magicians... If you have  talent,
