Rec and Park Celebrates Women's History Month
March is Women's History Month! Each week over the next month, we'll pay tribute
to some of the many women who've been key figures in San Francisco Recreation and
Park Department history. You'll learn about some of our most important volunteers,
a staff member who runs girls sports programs, and learn for whom some of our most
important parks are named. This week, we take a look at Rec and Park's own Silver
Bullet, Rachelle Henley, who was part of a historic moment in American sports. Click
here to read the story. [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001JJF2GmIZm_ljgbWQk89PI0IT5484dPwwdxwSt6E3KZ92_gNfSWncaKYY9VNk_80FRMLS16UZobfSOBgJTTtih2X3TLXijqqzPdDxbzcSoBscQIGAoIBoInsm4UCRQJDt]

A New Era Begins at Dolores Park
Supervisor Scott Wiener; Board of Supervisors President David Chiu; Recreation and
Park Commissioners Meagan Levitan and Gloria Bonilla; GM Phil Ginsburg; Dolores
Park Works; and park advocates came together for a groundbreaking ceremony of world-famous
Mission Dolores Park on Saturday, March 1.
For nearly a century, San Franciscans have enjoyed the 16 acres of recreational
opportunities provided by Mission Dolores Park. To help keep up with the use of
the park and make much-needed infrastructure improvements, over 71% of San Francisco
voters approved the 2008 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond, a $185 million
general obligation bond that includes $13.2 million to improve Mission Dolores Park.
When the park is completed, you will find new bathrooms, renovated tennis and basketball
courts, a new multi-use court, two improved designated off-leash dog play areas,
new bike racks, new pathways, a new overlook in the southeast corner, improved
irrigation, and improved ADA access.
Special thanks to Dolores Park Dogs, which has been a key park partner of the Department
for years. The group has met every first Saturday of the month since 2000 for park
cleanup and beatification projects.
