Try the Rockin' Ropes Adventure

All Bay Area youngsters (4-14 years old) are invited to enjoy the Rockin' Ropes 
Adventure in the Pachyderm Building opening Saturday, January 17. This challenging,
elevated ropes obstacle course will be open on weekends and school holidays through
June 14. Young visitors can zip, swing, jump, step, and slide their way through 
30 feet of fun. And to up the ante opening weekend, there will be an obstacle course
bounce house for the little ones. If you're planning an upcoming birthday party 
or group get-together, consider renting out Rockin' Ropes Adventure for the festivities

Rockin' Ropes Adventure requires an additional fee of $3 for upper-level Zoo Members
(Supporting $250 and above), $5 for regular Zoo Members, and $7 for general admission

We are in the process of expanding our hermit crab exhibit in the Insect Zoo, and
since hermit crabs are social animals, we're looking to add more crabs to the group.
Although hermit crabs are readily available in pet stores, those animals are collected
from the wild. We want to provide a home to crabs in need. If you know of a hermit

 This club is for children 9 to 12 years old who are interested in animals, conservation,
and future careers in the field of conservation. Club members will learn about conservation
topics, meet with Zoo keepers, and design and complete conservation projects at

Young zoologists (children 5 to 8 years old) will love exploring animal classifications
and habitats as they learn about beautiful birds and meet some of our feathered 
friends in this informative class. Our dedicated Education Staff will teach them
 about birds that fly, swim, run, and dive as they tour the Zoo, play games, make
crafts, and more!

will be hosting informational orientations in February and March. If you know kids
between 12 to 17 years old who are interested in volunteering at the Zoo, this would
be their first step toward applying. All orientations occur in the Lurie Education
Center and are free to attend. Reservations are not necessary.
Nature Trail (12-14 years old)
Volunteer during the summer and learn to handle mammals, reptiles, and amphibians
while speaking to the public about the animals' natural histories and conservation.
Nature Trail orientation dates:
Saturday, February 7, 10:00 am -12:00 pm
Sunday, February 15, 10:00 am -12:00 pm
Talk on the Wild Side (14-17 years old)
Give informational talks to Zoo visitors and utilize bio-fact carts to educate the
public about animals.

Zoo Teacher Assistant (14-17 years old)
Help Zoo Camp teachers educate youngsters about the world of animals through Zoo
 tours, crafts, and games, as well as assist with other activities.
