William Hammond Hall Awards on July 15

In partnership with Local 261, the City and County of San Francisco and Rec and 
Park GM Phil Ginsburg will host the 7th Annual William Hammond Hall Awards on Wednesday,
July 15 at 3:30 p.m., at the Golden Gate Yacht Club.  These annual awards honor 
the top professionals in gardening and horticulture and recognize the men and women
who work day in and day out to make our parks clean and beautiful.  This year's 
event emcees are Supervisor Mark Farrell and Assessor-Recorder Carmen Chu.

Summer Fun at Little Hollywood Park on July 17

for a FREE special summer celebration marking the completion of recent improvements
at Little Hollywood Park.

The project, funded by the City's General Fund and Open Space program, includes 
improved landscaping, irrigation and pathways, and new park amenities including 
benches, BBQ grills and trash cans.

A Victory for Women's Soccer

Congratulations to the USA Women's Soccer Team, which defeated Japan 5-2 in the 
Women's World Cup Final in Vancouver on July 5.  This tremendous victory was celebrated
across the country, including at San Francisco's Civic Center, where SF Recreation
and Parks and America SCORES Bay Area hosted live broadcasts of games throughout
 the tournament.  On July 5, approximately 3,000 soccer fans poured into the plaza
to root on their favorite team, participate in soccer games and feel the energy

SF Chronicle: Virtual Views of Parks from Google

The San Francisco Chronicle's Lizzie Johnson reports on new ways you can visit your
local parks: "Hiking boots are no longer a requirement for trekking through Glen
 Canyon Park - now you can do it from a computer.  Last week, Google Maps unveiled
new Street View photos from hundreds of  locations around California, ranging from
state parks and beaches to  nature preserves and vineyards. It  included 360-degree
panoramas of  Grandview Park, Corona Heights Park, Billy Goat Hill Park and Glen
  Canyon Park, thanks to a collaboration with the San Francisco Recreation  and

recurs every other month. Tucked away in the southeast corner of the city, Bayview
Park supports a remarkably diverse population of plants and animals.  Please wear

Street Soccer USA Cup Coming to Civic Center August 15-16

Each summer, Street Soccer USA holds a weekend street soccer festival in the heart
of Civic Center to promote its mission of improving the lives of homeless and at-risk
youth through sports.

Three tournament divisions, One Goal... Soccer for Social Change.
