SF Chronicle: Unexpected History Lesson from the Buddha

The San Francisco Chronicle's Bill Van Niekerken highlights the Buddha statue that
resides in Golden Gate Park's Japanese Tea Garden.  "While looking for images to
 illustrate the OurSF article this past Sunday, I came across a negative pack tagged
"G.G. Park - Buddha installed." I couldn't picture where this buddha was located.
Certainly it couldn't be in the Japanese Tea Garden, which was designed by Baron
 Makoto Hagiwara and built in 1894 for the MidWinter Exposition. It was time to 
dig around in the archives, and as usual, the search turned up more history than

"Divots and Corks" Women's Golf Event at Sharp Park on July 30

The San Francisco Mayor's Women's Golf Council invites women golfers of all levels--
beginners and beyond-- to Divots and Corks, an eight-hole golf scramble event at
 Sharp Park Golf Course on July 30, from 4-7 p.m.  The Council was founded in July
2014 by Mayor Ed Lee in support of his passion for San Francisco golf and his interest
in seeing the game promoted and played more.  Event cost is $25 per person, including

of Civic Center to promote its mission of improving the lives of homeless and at-risk
