Women's World Cup Viewings at Civic Center June 30 and July 5

San Francisco Recreation and Parks and America SCORES Bay Area are teaming up again
to bring you live broadcasts of Women's World Cup soccer action at Civic Center,
 including a semi-final game on June 30 at 4 p.m. and the World Cup Final on July
5 at 4 p.m. Along with the games on the big screen, fans will be able to get their
faces painted in team colors, scrimmage on mini soccer courts and take part soccer
skills activities; a rock wall will be on site on June 30.  There will also be gourmet
food trucks from Off-the-Grid.

SF Bay Sox Recognized at Commission Meeting

The San Francisco Bay Sox girls baseball team stopped by City Hall on June 18, where
Recreation and Park Commission President Mark Buell and GM Phil Ginsburg thanked
 the team for their efforts during the inaugural Baseball for All National Girls
 Baseball Tournament in Orlando, Fla. earlier this month.  The team, led by coaches
Rachelle Henley, Alexandra Oglesby, Adela Domingues and Princess Canunio, finished
with an impressive 6-1 record.

A Sunny Summer Afternoon at Dolores: Park Reopens After Major Renovation

Dolores Park is one of the city's most popular and iconic parks, where people flock
to by the thousands when there's even a hint of sunshine in the forecast.

Last week, the park's faithful followers were treated to a free silent disco party
marking the reopening of the park's north side after the first phase of a much-needed
$20 million renovation project, funded by the 2008 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks
Bond.

The north side renovation project included:

* New Restrooms with expanded      capacity
* Renovated tennis and basketball      Courts
* New multi-use court
* Improved designated off-leash dog play      areas
* New bike racks
* New pathways
* New overlook in the southwest      corner
* Improved irrigation
* Improved ADA access
* Improved 18th Street entrance

Leading up to the reopening, the Dolores Park community-- from neighbors, to merchants,
to community groups-- stepped up and took up the mantle to help change some of the
culture of behavior at the park, where a typical sunny afternoon often yields an
 enormous amount of trash and litter, a burden on maintenance staff and taxpayers;
it costs $750,000 every year to help clean up trash left at Dolores.

Save the Date: William Hammond Hall Awards on July 15

In partnership with Local 261, the City and County of San Francisco and Rec and 
Park GM Phil Ginsburg will host the 7th Annual William Hammond Hall Awards on Wednesday,
July 15 at 3:30 p.m., at the Golden Gate Yacht Club.  These annual awards honor 
the top professionals in gardening and horticulture and recognize the men and women
who work day in and day out to make our parks clean and beautiful.  This year's 
event emcees are Supervisor Mark Farrell and Assessor-Recorder Carmen Chu.

Street Soccer USA Cup Coming to Civic Center August 15-16

Each summer, Street Soccer USA holds a weekend street soccer festival in the heart
of Civic Center to promote its mission of improving the lives of homeless and at-risk
