Save the Date: Eggstravaganza 2015 on April 4

Save the Date for our annual Eggstravaganza event at Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate
Park on April 4, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring carnival rides, egg hunts, games,
live entertainment and our annual Rib Cook-Off with SF Fire and SF Police departments.
 Cost is $8 per person; children under 2 are free.  Advance tickets will be available

Rec and Park Celebrates Women's History Month: Pioneer Mother Memorial

most influential women in history who have had an impact on our city and our parks.
 This week, we take a close look at the Pioneer Mother Memorial in Golden Gate Park,
which first made its appearance at the Panama Pacific International Exposition in

Upper Douglass Dog Park Reopens for Spring on March 16

San Francisco Rec and Park is pleased to announce the spring opening of the Upper
Douglass Dog Park on Monday, March 16, 2015. Thank you for being patient as the 
winter closure allowed for turf regeneration just in time for the spring season.
 We will soon be moving the water fountain to the north side and we have installed
gravel near the entrance to provide a diverse terrain experience for the dogs.

Rec & Park will also be changing maintenance closure days to Wednesdays (starting
Wednesday, March 18, 2015) to coincide with street cleaning in the area. We hope
 that you and your four legged friends enjoy the park!

Oak Woodlands in Golden Gate Park Joins Old-Growth Forest Network on March 14

The Oak Woodlands Natural Area in Golden Gate Park will be formally dedicated as
 part of the Old-Growth Forest Network this Saturday, March 14, at 10 a.m., at the
Conservatory of Flowers.  Brief remarks will be followed by a volunteer work party
at the Oak Woodlands.  Co-hosted by the Friends of the Oak Woodlands.

Free Guided Walk Around Lake Merced this Saturday, March 14

Free Guided Walk around the Lake with Healthy Parks, Healthy People

Lake Merced Boathouse at 1 Harding Park Road (2nd Saturday of Month) 10 a.m.-12 
noon

Make a date this Pi Day to get outdoors for a day filled with fresh air and healthy,
friendly fun!  This two-mile loop trail includes beautiful views of San Francisco's
wetlands providing opportunities to see nesting bird species and native plants just
waiting to bloom. Meet in front of the Lake Merced Boathouse and Get Out & Play!

For a more enjoyable walk remember to dress comfortably, wear walking shoes, bring
water and use sunscreen. Please check local weather forecasts - Trail Walks will

Sea Slug Soiree at the Randall Museum on March 21

The Sea Slug Soiree is "A Science and Art Celebration of Elegant Slugs of the Sea.
Featuring an 8pm lecture by nudibranch expert Dr Rebecca Johnson of the California
Academy of Sciences who will share current research and astounding biology of sea
slugs. Come learn how these sneaky slugs steal the defenses of their prey."

The Sea Slug Reception offers art, music, printmaking and two complimentary beverages.

This event is a collaboration between Rec and Park's Randall Museum and the Gulf
 of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary.

Zumba Dance Party at the County Fair Building on March 29

Come and join our Zumba in the Parks instructors for two free hours of Zumba at 
the County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park (9th Avenue and Lincoln Way) on March
29, from 2-4 p.m.! This family-friendly event is a great opportunity to see all 
20+ Zumba instructors in action, while burning a few calories and learning new steps.
Remember to bring a friend and a reuseable water bottle. Get out and dance!

The Harvey Milk Photo Center, and celebrating our 75th Anniversary this year, and
which is part of the San Francisco Rec & Parks Dept, in San Francisco, is proud 
to present "High Water Line- Photographs of the City in the Bay", by Spencer Aldworth
Brown.

Mr. Brown's immersive photographs take the perspective of the water itself. Waves
pull at the coastline, flow under the piers and erode the seawalls built in boom
 times a century ago. We see the high waterlines of development and how uses have
slowly changed overtime.

Aquascapes: The Art of Underwater Gardening

On exhibit now through April 12

Aquascaping, the art of creating stunning underwater landscapes with plants, stones
and wood, is a popular international gardening trend. Annual competitions attract
hundreds of elaborate entries from around the world. The beautifully planted aquariums
can mimic everything from primeval forests to verdant valleys or can become sublime
works of underwater abstract art.
Now, visitors to the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park get a chance to
 marvel at this unique form of water gardening and learn how aquatic plants have
 adapted to life in the deep. The aquascapes will grow, change and transform throughout
the run of the exhibit, so be sure to visit us several times through April 12.
