Calling all moms! Receive free admission on Mother's Day when you visit with your child or children. Come learn about the importance of protecting some of the world's most vulnerable animals and the everyday actions we can take to help protect them. Hear special keeper talks and learn how the staff cares for the endangered species here at the Zoo!

Prairie Dog Pups Emerge!

Every year the Children's Zoo (CZ) staff patiently waits for the first sightings of prarie dog pups because they do not emerge from their burrows until they are approximately 6 weeks old. Stop by the Exploration Zone and watch the holes at the north end of their exhibit.

New at the Zoo

Our new two-toed sloth just arrived this week from the Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin, Texas. He was born on January 16, 2014, and is settling in nicely here at the Zoo. Although this now brings our sloth total to two males, this specific acquisition was an AZA/SSP (Association of Zoos & Aquariums/Species Survival Plan) recommendation because he was in need of a home. Be on the lookout for more updates after he makes his home inside the new South American Tropical Aviary opening this summer.

Summer Zoo Camp

At Zoo Camp your “wild one” can get in touch with their animal side as they learn, play, and explore at the San Francisco Zoo!

We offer three different themed weeks where campers learn about animals and their habitats while playing interactive games and creating fun art projects. Each week includes Keeper Talks, observation walks, and lots of hands-on activities that keep kids engaged. Summer Zoo Camp for children entering Pre-K to Grade 7 is weekly from June 1 to August 14.

The Zoo's Wellness Team has kicked off its first crowd funding campaign with Experiment.com (https://t.e2ma.net/click/4rh0f/o330mu/ovl96b), to raise funds to develop and test a prototype enrichment device inspired by the "soccer playing" behavior of our Indian rhino Gauhati.
