Mary'sPlayground, will be open to the public for enjoyment, education and to celebrate
theseunique green spaces!
Our gardens are volunteer-run (over 1,700 participants and counting!) under the 
umbrellaof Rec and Park's Community Gardens Program, which is a component of the
 citywide Urban Agriculture Program.

SF Chronicle: SF Stitches Together Parks Along Southeastern Waterfront

A 1.5-mile stretch of parks along the city's southeast waterfront is one step closer
to being integrated.
Seven parks along the India Basin Shoreline will be  turned into a continuous open
space under a Recreation and Park  Department partnership approved last week with
the Trust for Public  Land, the Parks Alliance and India Basin Investment LLC, or
Build Inc.
The public-private planning process - called the  India Basin Waterfront Plan - 
is now under way. When completed, the  shoreline park will be one of the largest
 in the city. It encompasses  Heron's Head Park, Hunters Point Shoreline, the India
Basin Shoreline  Park, the India Basin Open Space, 900 Innes Ave., and the future
Big  Green Park and Northside Park.
"This partnership paves the way for a fully  integrated bayfront park system that
will be an amenity-rich,  thoughtfully programmed and well-maintained legacy park,"
Rec and Park  Director Phil Ginsburg said in a news release. "It's a  key step in
our effort to build the great parks of tomorrow to address  population growth in
 high-needs areas and emerging neighborhoods."
A task force led by Ginsburg, Mayor Ed Lee, Supervisor Malia Cohen, neighbors and
stakeholders have created a framework for the park design.

Youth Stewardship Program Kicks Off
The department's Youth Stewardship Program partners with San Francisco teachers 
to offer free, hands-on environmental education and service learning field trips
 for youth.  This year's program kicks off on October 22, 4-6 p.m., at the EcoCenter
at Heron's Head Park (Port of San Francisco), located at Cargo Way and Jennings
