My twin boys were born June 27th and twin B was born
via breech extraction. I was very nervous about the
breech extraction, but I really wanted to do a vaginal
delivery if possible. Once my first son was out I was
so excited! My second son was pulled out three minutes
later with no problems. It was thankfully really easy.
After 15 minutes of pushing both boys were out. The
labor was a different story. The breech extraction was
not bad at all, with lots of drugs of course. Haha. I
delivered at Kaiser San Francisco and they were great
and very supportive of doing breech extraction. They
made sure to have a doctor on call who was trained to
do the breech extraction. Everyone was excellent. In
fact, I had a whole cheering section in the OR. It was
an amazing experience! Hope that gives you some
 reassurance.

Thank you both. Your input is really helpful and
reassuring. I suppose I need to learn more about the
procedure to figure out whether the benefits outweigh
the risks. I don't think my doctor wanted to push me in
one direction or the other which is why she provided me
with the homework. :) Also, I'm not sure whether they
can guarantee that there will be a well-trained OB who
 can perform a breech extraction - that's a question I
 need to ask. Thanks again!

Yes, that seems most important, that you have an OB
available who is well trained and experienced. Hoping
 all goes smoothly for you!

I third all of the above! Our little B looked to be
headed for breech extraction, and was (footling, no
less!) but our docs knew about the possibility ahead of
time, and we supportive of our desire for a vaginal
delivery. (I had to go through more than one ob/gyn to
find a team that was comfortable.) BUT - researching
what's what ahead of time is great - really empowering,
and makes things SOO much easier when you might be
confronted with them during labor. That's NOT the time
to be Learning New Stuff.Dunno if you've already got
this covered -- but the Bradley Method of birth prep
was the BEST thing we did, and I can't recommend it
highly enough. It aims for everyone delivering
vaginally with their partner's help (but also educates
you about loads of variables.) It's a commitment - but
then, so is parenting - and it prepared us SO well for
the birth, for any weird contingencies, for all the
oddball stuff that happens afterwards - we learned SO
so much, and left feeling really inspired and empowered
and more ready than when we started. We went to a
phenomenal teacher in Berkeley (just off fwy, so really
not much different than driving across town) would be
happy to give you her details, if you're interested.
(It USED to be called "husband-coached childbirth" back
when it started, in the 50s or so - but has definitely
evolved since that time!)Good luck to you!!
