Rec and Park Walks, and Zumbas, to Work
Walk SF's fourth annual Walk to Work Day was a huge success with more than 1,650
 participating at more than 15 hubs citywide. Rec and Park hosted a special Zumba
dance class at its hub at Justin Herman Plaza, where participants enjoyed free breakfast
snacks and giveaways.

NRPA and Disney Team Up to Revitalize City Parks
The National Recreation and Park Association is collaborating with the Walt Disney
Company, including Disney Citizenship, ABC Television and ESPN to revitalize parks
across the U.S. including a park here in San Francisco! One of three local parks
 will receive a $20,000 grant and you get to choose which one!

It's a Girl! SF Zoo Welcomes New Baby Giraffe
The San Francisco Zoo & Gardens recently welcomed a new addition to the giraffe 
family, a female calf born Friday, April 8 at 9:40 am in the Bernard Osher Foundation
Giraffe Barn. Mother, Barbro, and her calf are in excellent condition. The calf 
stood up and took her first steps within 30 minutes of birth. She's already more
 than six-feet tall! The newest arrival joins six other giraffes in the herd. The
calf, not yet named, has a two-year-old sister, Sarah. Dad, Floyd, has fathered 
a number of giraffes at the Zoo.

Bioblitz McLaren Park on April 16
Join the Nerds for Nature, California Academy of Sciences, and Save McLaren Park
 on April 16, National Citizen Science Day, for a grassroots bioblitz at McLaren
 Park in San Francisco!

In 2013, we gathered Nature Nerds, park neighbors, scientists, and amateur naturalists
all armed with the iNaturalist app to find and identify as many different species
as possible within McLaren Park.

And now we're back to search for wildlife in SF's second-largest city park.

A Bioblitz is an intensive one-day study of biodiversity in a specific location,
 bringing scientists and volunteer citizen-scientists together. Together, we'll 
look for snails, birds, mammals, frogs, butterflies, other insects, spiders, trees,
worms, flowers, and everything else we can find!

Bring your smartphone or a camera, your curiosity, and tons of enthusiasm. We'll
 rally some experts and folks who know the area. Together we'll make some science!

King's Day Celebration in Golden Gate Park on April 23
King's Day, the biggest national celebration in the Netherlands, is returning once
again to San Francisco's Golden Gate Park on April 23, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the
 Murphy Windmill! Everything and everyone turns ORANGE to celebrate not just King
Willem-Alexander's birthday, but also Dutch culture and the Dutch way of life. Dutch
King's Day San Francisco will be a fun-filled day with music, food, beverages and
a variety of great activities!
