Celebrate Earth Day in our Parks!
Celebrate Earth Day with the following events happening this weekend and beyond:
Saturday, April 23 at India Basin Shoreline Park
The Port of San Francisco and Bay.org are celebrating the sixth anniversary of the
EcoCenter. Rec and Park is excited to support the celebration by extending the coastal
cleanup to India Basin Shoreline Park in addition to providing the community with
free, fun mobile activities from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Saturday, April 23 at Boeddeker Park
Spring to Life at Boeddeker Park, featuring free Zumba, seed planting and painting
projects in celebration of Earth Day, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Saturday, April 23 at Alemany Farm
Celebrate the 10th Annual Earth Day Celebration at Alemany Farm beginning at 11
a.m. This free event features a volunteer work party followed by a potluck picnic
and BBQ. has brought its Canoemobile program to the San Francisco Bay Area this week to engage
more than a thousand area students and people with disabilities in introductory
outdoor paddling experiences. During its visit, Canoemobile is working with Rec
and Park, SFUSD, the National Park Foundation and other partners to share adventure
experiences with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.

A Legacy of Service: Remembering the 1906 Earthquake
This past Monday, April 18, marked the 110th anniversary of the devastating 1906
earthquake and fire, which destroyed 28,000 buildings and instantly displaced 250,000
city residents from their homes. San Francisco parks and park employees were key
in sheltering the victims of the disaster and starting the city on its long road
to recovery, but one little unassuming building at the east end of Golden Gate
Park played a huge role in the immediate hours after the quake. Read more.
