Volunteers for Outdoor California Make Upgrades to Glen Canyon Trails
Volunteers for Outdoor California (V-O-Cal), in conjunction with the San Francisco
Recreation and Park Department, led a weekend volunteer project in which 120 volunteers
upgraded a portion of the Creeks to Peaks Trail. Dedicated volunteers created and
improved approximately 1800 feet of the trail by addressing eroding and unsafe areas
with a path that improves the overall hiking experience and will help to protect
 the endangered Mission Blue Butterfly on Twin Peaks. The event included overnight
camping, sun showers, and hot meals in the park.

Teens, Looking for a Job During the School Year?
The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department's 2016-17 School Year Workreation
season is here! Teens, ages 14-18, are encouraged to apply beginning this Friday,
August 19. Work up to 10 hours per week, October through April, earning $13 an hour.
Flexible schedules in a variety of fields, including recreation, aquatics, facility
management, administration and parks.  Applications period ends at 4:30 p.m. on

Merced Heights Playground Planning Meeting on September 7
The San Francisco Parks Alliance and SF Rec and Park invite you to the second community
planning meeting for the renovation of Merced Heights Playground, funded by the 
2012 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond and a project of the Let'sPlaySF initiative,

The Wild Bunch: Succulents, Cacti and Fat Plants
At the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park through October 16
This summer, the Conservatory of Flowers gets rough and tumble as it continues to
celebrate some of the more ornery gangs of the plant world in a new exhibition. 
Set amongst the rusty remnants of an old ghost town, The Wild Bunch, on view through
October 16, explores the strange and dramatic world of water hoarding plants, bristling
with living examples of cacti, fat plants (also known as caudiciforms) and other
 succulents. These fleshy, and often thorny, plants are distinguished for their 
ability to survive the most extreme, arid conditions, and their swollen stems and
leaves come in a stunning variety of weird shapes and unexpected colors. Click here

Free Guided Walk in the Park with Healthy Parks, Healthy People, Sept. 3
Stow Lake Boathouse in Golden Gate Park (1st Sat. of each month) 10am-12pm
Join Recreation staff for free, fun and all-inclusive nature hikes! We will start
with energizing stretches to warm-up the body and a short feature on the health 
benefits of nature. You can participate for all or just a portion of the hike, increasing
your distance as stamina improves. This activity is perfect for those that want 
an introduction to hiking or an excuse to get back into it. Meet other like-minded
hikers while staying healthy in our parks!
For a more enjoyable walk remember to dress comfortably, wear walking shoes, bring

A Country Western Celebration Honoring the Barnes Family, Sept. 24
