Subject: L-Taraval community mtg - Wed (2/17) @ 6:00pm
Dear community members –
Our office would like to invite you to attend the final community meeting
in a series to discuss the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency’s
(SFMTA) L-Taraval Rapid Project. The meeting will be held tomorrow night,
Wednesday, February 17th at 6:00pm at Dianne Feinstein Elementary School,
located at 2550 25th Avenue between Ulloa and Vicente. Although we have
shared this information on multiple occasions in our monthly newsletter, we
wanted to send another important reminder about this opportunity for public
feedback on SFMTA’s plans for the L-Taraval.
To summarize SFMTA’s proposals, the L-Taraval Rapid Project proposes changes
to the L-Taraval route that include:
· Boarding islands: Designed to improve safety of riders
embarking/disembarking trains, boarding islands are proposed to be installed
along Taraval at 18th, 26th, 30th, 32nd, 40th, 42nd and 46th Avenues.
Installation of boarding islands will mean the removal of some parking,
however, SFMTA has committed to a net zero loss in parking. Parking may be
relocated from mid-block to the corners, by changing parallel parking to
perpendicular parking and adding parking meters.
· Dedicated transit-only lanes: Transit-only lanes would be located
in the center lanes to keep vehicles out of Muni’s lane. Vehicles would be
able to enter the transit-only lanes to make left turns or move around
double-parked vehicles.
· Stop removals: Some stops would be consolidated to allow Muni to
travel the same distance in a shorter amount of time. Stop removals include
those stops at 17th, 22nd, 28th, 35th, and 44th Avenues as well as the stop
at 46th Avenue and Ulloa Street. Stop relocations will occur at 15th and
19th Avenues.
· Replacement of the track: Worn overhead wire and trolley poles
will be replaced as well as the track and pavement along Taraval Street.
This project is intended to improve overall reliability of the line.
· Sewer and water line replacements: This will upgrade our aging
sewer infrastructure.
The above is a summary of SFMTA’s proposals and we intend to hear from as
many community members as possible on these ideas.
A graphic showing the proposed changes is available here:

Please attend the final community meeting to discuss these proposals on:
Wednesday, February 17th, at 6:00pm at Dianne Feinstein Elementary School,
located at 2550 25th Avenue between Ulloa and Vicente. SFMTA staff will be
in attendance to present these proposed changes and answer questions.
