Board Approves Revenue Measure
There was some great news out of City Hall on February 23, as the Board of Supervisors
approved a motion to send to San Francisco voters in June a proposed amendment to
the city charter that would increase Rec and Park's General Fund baseline funding.
The charter amendment would require an annual baseline appropriation for the Parks,
Recreation and Open Space Fund and extend our annual set-aside and baseline appropriation
for 15 years to Fiscal Year 2045-46.
Under the amendment, the General Fund subsidy would increase by $3 million per year
for the next 10 years and could not fall below $64.2 million. After 10 years, the
amount would then change by the percentage the General Fund grows or contracts annually
for the following 20 years.
Provisions in the proposed amendment include:
*   The Department must absorb all cost increases and revenue changes within its
 new baseline
*   May use new revenue and year-over-year revenue increases to cover costs and 
enhance the budget
*   Measure includes expanded planning requirements: Strategic, Operations and Capital
plans
*   Department will perform annual equity analysis and develop a set of equity metrics
The benefit of the measure is two-fold. One, it provides long-term stability for
 the department. Secondly, the measure will allow us to invest at least $15 million
a year in capital funding that will help us to start to chip away at our deferred
maintenance needs including court resurfacing, grass field renovations, urban forestry
and paving, among other projects.

Free Guided Trail Hike with Healthy Parks, Healthy People
Herons Head Park, Jennings Street off Cargo Way, 10 a.m.-12 noon
Meet in the mini-park next to the parking lot.
Explore nature, enliven your spirit, and increase your stamina in our parks. This
walk takes place on the Bay trail, right on the San Francisco waterfront. It is 
an excellent place for bird watching, and stop by the adjacent Eco Center when finished!
This activity is free, all-inclusive and requires no pre-registration.
For a more enjoyable walk remember to dress comfortably, wear walking shoes, bring
water and use sunscreen. Please check local weather forecasts - Trail Walks will
