Subject: Re: [House] Discussion about the SFUSD Public School Lottery?
Hello everybody,
Thank you for your interest in the SFPOM Preschool, Kinder and Beyond
discussion about the SFUSD Public School Lottery! I was fortunate enough to
get my twins into my #2 listed school, New Traditions, start time 9:30m, and
am so thrilled. I know of 3 families (two twins, one singleton) who got
nothing on their list, and we wanted to have a discussion to help everybody
avoid the mistakes they made - ha, easy to say if you win the lottery,
right?...but seriously, it's not as complicated as it may sound. At all.
It's actually a fairly good system for a less-than-perfect situation.
Unfortunately, there is a small percentage of people who have to wait in
limbo without an assigned school for much longer than is healthy - but let's
try to do everything possible to avoid that.
But more about that in our meeting :-).
I want to make sure we pick a date that works for as many people as possible
- or dare I say everybody. Could you please let me know what weekday
evenings would NOT work for you, between Monday, September 12th, and Friday,
September 30th? Just so we don't pick that date for an 8pm-10pm meeting. The
meeting will be at my home in Forest Hill, 5 minute walk from the Forest
Hill muni station, with plenty of street parking.
Also, if you want to, send me a list of schools you are interested in
hearing more about. If you don't know any schools yet, just send me your
cross streets, and I can look up some schools for you, in advance of our
meeting. Just to make the discussion as relevant as possible (and be as
prepared as possible).
Also - if you haven't heard about the organization "Parents for Public
Schools" yet, then check out thiswebsite: http://newsroom.ppssf.org/enrollment-support/round2eventsandremind
ers. They have absolutely fabulous free workshops about the process that are
hosted by professionals. Their calendar for upcoming workshops won't come
out until next month, but consider going to one of those workshops if you
won't be able to make it to our meeting!
Have a great weekend!
Lucia
P.S. And by the way, if you know any other twin parents who might be
interested, but are not part of the club, please feel free to invite.
P.P.S. if you are DYING to start the process RIGHT NOW and are looking for
materials, let me know, I'd be happy to send you stuff to read ahead of
time.
