Eggstravaganza This Saturday,  March 26

CityBeat Poll and Program Survey Reveal That You Like Us, You Really Like Us!
The San Francisco Chamber of Commerce released the results of its2016 CityBeat Poll

last week, and while there remains a great deal of angst over a number of issues
 facing our city, Rec and Park fared pretty well in the survey. Seventy percent 
of San Franciscans gave our department services a favorable rating, the highest 
approval rating of any other city agency polled. Additionally, 48% of respondents
felt the condition of parks was getting better, up from 38% just two years ago--
 again, the highest rated city service in the poll. Just 14% felt our parks were
 getting worse.
In our winter recreation survey, a whopping 92% of respondents gave our programs
 a favorable rating and would recommend their class to family and friends. This 
past weekend, our summer day camp registration began with more than 5,000 registrations
in the first hour alone. Overall, we registered more than 10,000 people in the first
weekend, a testament to the quality, affordability and popularity of our programs
citywide.
These numbers are significant because they confirm that our  department is headed
in the right direction and is being recognized by  the people who matter most, the
people who use and rely on our parks and  programs each and every day.Thank you 
to all of you who continue to use our parks and participate in our programs. We 
couldn't do it without you.

Women's History Month: Hope for Historic Mother's Building
In honor of Women's History Month, we're highlighting a building located at the 
San Francisco Zoo that honors the greatest women in the world-our mothers!
The  Mother's Building was built in 1925 on land donated by brothers Herbert  and
Mortimer Fleishhacker to honor their mother Delia's memory. The  building was intended
to serve as a lounge for mothers with small  children where they could change, nurse
and relax during a day at  Fleishhaker Playfield and Pool. Amenities included distilled
water, milk  and refreshments along with medical advice for its guests. In the west,
 it was the only structure at the time that was "designed to enhance  comfort of
 mothers and young children spending the entire day in  recreation," according to
a National Register of Historic Places  nomination form. Read more here. Greenagers Applications Available Now!
The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department's Greenagers program offers teens
from the southeast side of San Francisco the chance to play an important role in
 the community by improving our city's green spaces and raising awareness about 
them. Greenagers work in various parks and open spaces throughout San Francisco,
 meet regularly with Rec and Park staff, community members and partners. Participants
will meet and work with teens their own age, collaborate with other youth organizations
and gain crucial skills in facilitating workshops, networking, public speaking, 
teamwork, environmental education, and community engagement.

Free Guided Trail Walk at Heron's Head Park on March 26
Herons Head Park, Jennings Street off Cargo Way, (4th Saturday of Month)
10 a.m.-12 noon (Meet in the mini-park next to the parking lot).
Explore nature, enliven your spirit, and increase your stamina in our parks. This
walk takes place on the Bay Trail, right on the San Francisco waterfront.  Enjoy
 some bird watching, stop by the adjacent EcoCenter for a free tour, and visit Bay
Natives to feed some Goats!
This activity is free, all-inclusive and requires no pre-registration.

Harvey Milk Photo Center Student Exhibit at McLaren Lodge
